If a luxurious romantic retreat in the heart of the North York Moors is what you’re after, look no further than this rural hideaway for two. Dating back to 1853, this former chapel exudes charm and character both inside and out, setting the scene for memorable getaways with your loved ones. Delightful yet unassuming on the outside, the accommodation inside is modern, cosy and very inviting, complete with a warming wood burner, slate floors and a sociable open-plan layout. Most importantly, four-legged friends are also welcome in this rural retreat, with plenty of cosy corners for them to curl up and have a good snooze. Dogs will also delight in this property’s wonderful location in the scenic Danby Dale, with miles of footpath trails on its doorstep. During a morning stroll, why not stop off at the local creamery or organic health food shop to pick up some delicious treats for the day ahead?

Inside, the open-plan layout serves as both a wonderfully sociable space and a lovely reminder of this building’s history. To further this, a church pew welcomes you as you enter the property, providing a great perch to take off muddy boots after long romantic strolls through the surrounding countryside. After slipping on your complimentary slippers, continue through to the fantastic main living space, which is both cosy and wonderfully light and airy. In the colder months, a wood burner provides welcome warmth after long blustery walks. It is also the perfect spot to warm up chilly paws. While the fire crackles away, rustle up romantic meals for two in the small but perfectly formed kitchen area. Here you should find everything you could need for cooking up hearty breakfasts, delicious suppers and everything in between. Once prepared, dine at the intimate table for two, while planning the following day’s walking routes or excursions. In the evenings, there’s no better place to relax and unwind than on the stylish and sumptuous sofa or armchair in the lounge area. At the other side of the kitchen, a few steps lead up to a charming mezzanine level. Furnished with a chaise longue and a selection of hardback books and boasting spectacular views of the moors outside, this is a peaceful space for whiling away an afternoon.

When the day is done, head upstairs to the beautifully presented double bedroom. Finished with low-level windows, the rural views are best enjoyed from the cast iron vintage bed. With a vaulted beam-lined ceiling, soft pastel decor and carefully chosen antique furniture, this is a romantic, fairy-tale-like room to retire to at the end of the day. Finally, a modern shower room complete with an indulgent rainfall shower sets you up for a memorable day ahead.

Step outside to enjoy a glass of fizz or cup of tea on the bench while listening to the timeless sound of the babbling brook nearby. Surrounded by nature, this is the perfect spot to sit and reflect on the day. With uninterrupted 360-degree views above the moor, there’s no better place to sit and admire the spectacular starry skies of Yorkshire when darkness falls. If you’re planning to tour the area by car, you will be pleased to find a dedicated off-road parking space for one car.

Best explored on foot, the beautiful Danby Dale is criss-crossed with a choice of scenic paths and trails just waiting to be explored. One of a series of valleys that flow north into the River Esk, Danby Dale is a popular choice for walkers of all abilities.

A landscape like no other, the North York Moors is a place of gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodlands and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. If you want to get away from it all, take a trip to the top of the high central moorlands. The famous Blakey Ridge (7 miles) affords some of the best views in the country and, if walking is your thing, you are surrounded on all sides by some truly stunning routes.

The vibrant and attractive market town of Pickering (21 miles) is perfect for a relaxing wander around its pretty houses, shops and tearooms. Grand Georgian architecture stands alongside cosy traditional cottages to create a picture-postcard location with several excellent restaurants, pubs and cafes in the town. The wonderful North York Moors Railway starts in Pickering, where you can catch a steam train to Whitby and back again through some of the most picturesque countryside in Yorkshire.

In addition to Pickering, there are many well-heeled towns and villages dotted about the moors, where honey-coloured sandstone buildings lend a warm contrast to the deep purple and green of the surrounding hills. The beautiful market town of Helmsley is also 21 miles away and is well worth a visit for its great restaurants, cafes and delis. If you fancy a little pampering, you'll also find a fantastic day spa here.

The charming town of Kirkbymoorside is 16 miles away, with its treasure trove of art and antique shops, tearooms, Ryedale Folk Museum and a great market on Wednesdays. There is a theme park and zoo at Flamingo Land, 23 miles away, and Eden Camp, a fascinating modern history museum, is 28 miles away.

During your stay, be sure to visit the North Yorkshire coast, with the gothic town of Whitby 18.5 miles away, and the picture-postcard fishing village of Robin Hood's Bay 23 miles away. Take a day trip here and experience the sights, sounds and tastes of Yorkshire's coastline.

Nicely decorated and furnished. Lovely private wood with daffodils for sitting out in. Accommodation would benefit from an upstairs convector heater. Larger pan for cooking meals from scratch would be useful.

A beautiful cosy cottage. We live less than 15 miles from The Wesleyan Chapel but the change of scenery was fantastic. Truly rural without being isolated, it is close to amazing walks, stunning views, dark night skies, and country pubs. Botton Village Store is only a short stroll away and has a huge range of goods from the basics of milk, bread andRead more toiletries to clothing and home-produced cheeses and meats. The Wesleyan Chapel is a lovely little hideaway cottage in a remote part of the North York Moors. The cottage was well equipped with everything we needed for our 4 night stay. The bedroom had a lovely view looking out over the moors and the bed was comfy. Really great to have a log burner and logs supplied, which we did use. Very well designed conversion of a small Victorian building, everything has been thought out well and made comfortable and tasteful. The chapel is very isolated at the bottom of a valley, so no phone but the Wifi is excellent. A beautiful rural area, excellent for walks and peaceful relaxation.
