This beautifully presented cottage provides the perfect romantic getaway to explore this wonderful part of West Yorkshire.

Retreat to this exquisite Yorkshire cottage in the village of Saltaire, approximately 10.5 miles from Halifax. A truly gorgeous, traditional property, the delightful, one-bedroom home sleeps just two guests, making it an ideal sanctuary for a couple seeking some quality time together. The cottage is set at the heart of the Victorian village, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Named after its founder, Sir Titus Salt who built a textile mill, and designed by architects Lockwood and Mawson, the village is famous for its Italianate architecture.

Enjoy staying in the unique location, close to the Saltaire Mill complex, which comprises colourful independent shops, cafes and restaurants, plus a gallery housing works by artist David Hockney. Take a barge journey along the Leeds to Liverpool canal while you are here, or a trip along the Shipley Glen Cable Tramway, believed to be the oldest working cable tramway in the country. Roberts Park, with its 14 acres of lawns, walks and flowerbeds, is also worth visiting while you are in Saltaire.

Enter this former mill worker’s cottage and find yourselves in the welcoming lounge, where you can cuddle up on the sofa in front of the wood burner-effect electric fire during the colder months. Read your books in here as you enjoy a cup of tea and a slice of cake, bought fresh from a bakery on one of your trips out. Watch the Smart TV in here too: this comes with Netflix, giving you plenty of choices of films and programmes to sit down to together.

Make your way into the charming kitchen, with its exposed brickwork, to prepare dinner on your romantic nights in. Make fresh coffee in here in the machine too then perch at the breakfast bar with a cup as you peruse the Sunday papers. Climb the stairs to find the delicately styled double bedroom up on the first floor, together with the beautiful bathroom, complete with a free-standing bath. Have a long hot bubble bath in here after each busy day out.

Sit outside in the courtyard garden on warm, sunny days. Have morning coffee out here or perhaps a gin and tonic before dinner. Fire up the BBQ if you feel like dining out in the fresh air. There is parking for one car at the cottage, plus a shed for keeping bikes in.

  • 1 double bedroom
  • Bathroom with roll-top bath with shower attachment and WC
  • Electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, Nespresso coffee machine
  • Welcome pack included
  • Travel cot and highchair available on request
  • Smart TV in the lounge- with Netflix

From Saltaire, travel 8 miles to the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Visit Ilkley, 9 miles from the cottage, a former spa town, situated in the Wharfe Valley and known for its beautiful moor. Head 16.5 miles to Bolton Abbey, also in the Yorkshire Dales, where you can wander the picturesque grounds, stroll around the priory ruins and enjoy the woods, river and even a waterfall. Make a day trip into Harrogate, 19 miles away, another impressive Victorian spa town; one is known for its antiques and fine art. Wander its streets, pausing in its fascinating independent shops and finding a spectrum of eateries to choose from.

Head to Halifax for the day during your stay in Saltaire. This thriving market town was once the centre of the wool trade in Victorian England, which blessed the town with wealth and good fortune. Many of the opulent buildings and monuments from this time can still be seen as you walk around the town, including Piece Hall, a magnificent Georgian building, which was once the place where weavers sold their cloth. Nowadays, it’s a fabulous place to grab a tasty bite to eat or peruse the independent shops and boutiques, as well as catch some outdoor performances.

Other impressive buildings include Halifax Minster, the town’s gothic church; the Grade II-listed Halifax Town Hall, created by the same man who designed the Houses of Parliament; and Shibden Hall, a 15th-century historic home surrounded by a glorious park, once home to famous lesbian diarist Anne Lister, who wrote her secret diaries there. The parkland is an excellent place to spend a day, where you can walk beside the pretty flowerbeds, row across the Mere or ride on the miniature train which will delight any children in your party. Kids will also love Eureka! The National Children’s Museum, which is sure to capture their imaginations with its 400 interactive exhibits.

If you enjoy food, make sure to visit Halifax’s Borough Market, which is a stunning Grade II-listed building hosting an award-winning covered market throughout the week. Sample some local produce and pick up a tasty treat to enjoy back at your luxury holiday cottage.

A very comfortable and perfectly equipped cottage for two. Part of the Saltaire estate so you really feel part of the mills history. Ideally placed for exploring Saltaire and we also ventured to Ilkley Moor and the Piece Hall in Halifax. Thoroughly recommended for a short break.

A lovely little cottage. Everything you needed was there & more. It was warm & cosy in the bitter weather & everything was very clean. Ideally positioned for public transport & nice walks. The only thing that would have been nice was to have a proper shower, found the bath difficult. Would definitely stay again if in area.
