A tastefully furnished split-level apartment nestling in the heart of Ripon, the perfect base from which to explore Yorkshire’s fine countryside and market towns for a family or two couples.

Located amongst the bustling streets of Ripon, this exclusive apartment forms part of a converted chapel that retains many of its beautiful original features, providing a wonderful base for couples and small groups to explore this historic Yorkshire town. Known for its majestic cathedral, fascinating museums and rolling calendar of events such as the International Music Festival and Ripon Races, Ripon has something to offer guests of all tastes and interests.

Accessed via a shared hallway and stairs up to the first-floor accommodation, you are met with a welcoming sense of homeliness, inviting you to pour your favourite tipple and find a comfortable spot to settle in. The interiors have been thoughtfully finished and have heaps of personality, decorated in a style that’s colourful and quirky with eclectic artwork and cheerful soft furnishings.

Your open-plan living space features unique curved walls, original floor-to-ceiling arched windows and wooden flooring, and the lounge area is home to a set of unusual yet deliciously cosy sofas that are perfect for curling up with a hot drink. Snuggle down to watch films with bowls of buttery popcorn, or simply kick back and appreciate the atmosphere. The SkyTV is a bonus for blustery afternoons, and there’s a selection of books and board games for light entertainment.

Whether you are whipping up a simple breakfast or something a little more decadent, the kitchen has everything you need to transform your locally sourced ingredients into a delicious feast. This contemporary space features an electric oven, hob and a microwave as well as a useful fridge/freezer and a dishwasher. There’s a breakfast bar for sipping leisurely drinks or savouring light snacks, but for more formal meals the dining table is a treat for candlelit suppers.

The first bedroom is tucked away behind the lounge/kitchen/diner and is a sanctuary thanks to the soothing decor, crisply dressed bed and simple yet chic bedroom furniture. Wake up, rejuvenated and ready for a day of adventure, slipping to the adjacent bathroom with a shower over the bath for an invigorating shower or a long soak.

A door leading from the hallway reveals a spiral staircase that winds up to the first floor where you’ll discover a marvellous master bedroom with gently sloping ceilings, a large bed and a circular window on the feature wall that’s painted in bold colours. This exquisite bedroom has its own en-suite shower room, and there’s lavish seating and ample storage. Mind your head on the walls, and take care on the stairs as they are open-tread and narrow.

Everything has been considered to enable you to leave your worries at the door and unwind with helpful extra touches such as a welcome voucher for the local supermarket on arrival, and the use of a picnic basket for all those scenic walks you’ll soon be enjoying. Practical details are covered too with the inclusion of a handy utility cupboard with a washer/dryer, availability of two bike mounts for bicycle storage outside and off-road allocated parking for one car with an additional guest parking area if needed.

On balmy summer evenings, the shared garden is a pleasant spot to savour a glass of wine and bask in the last rays of sunshine. There’s garden furniture, lawn space and there are shops, pubs and restaurants within a short 0.5-mile walk.

The vibrant cathedral city of Ripon boasts a Thursday market, numerous coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and a nice collection of independent shops to explore, and you’ll have all of this to enjoy from your doorstep. The cathedral is smaller than its close neighbour, York Minster, but is still an awe-inspiring sight. In addition, every night for at least 450 years, the Ripon Hornblower has sounded the curfew at 9pm from all four sides of the obelisk in the market place, come rain or shine, followed by a 15-minute history of the ceremony and the city – an experience not to be missed! If you are partial to a flutter, Ripon Race Ground has around 15 meets from April to early September. Known as 'Yorkshire's Garden Racecourse' it has a distinct atmosphere harking back to a bygone era – traditional tearooms and bandstands sit alongside the champagne bar.

This area of Yorkshire has enough historic sites to keep you busy for a week with Ripley Castle (8.5 miles), Newby Hall (5.5 miles) and Norton Conyers (4 miles) all close by. Visit lovely Fountains Abbey and the gorgeous Studley Royal Water Garden, 3.5 miles away – this World Heritage site is deservedly one of the National Trust's most visited locations. As well as the spectacular ruins of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey, the grounds are home to an Elizabethan Mansion, a medieval deer park and some of the most romantic vistas in the country.

Harrogate (12.5 miles) is an absolute must-visit if you're staying here. Encircled by its famous Stray, or 200 acres of horseshoe-shaped grassland, the Victorian spa town of Harrogate has a bright and breezy open-air feel and is characterised by its impressive floral displays. And as you would expect of such a bustling upbeat town, Harrogate boasts over 300 bars and restaurants together with all the shops, cinemas, parks and gardens you could ever wish for.

We booked last minute and were very pleasantly surprised at how lucky we were to have found such a gem. Great location for walking into town, clean, comfortable and colourful. We had a fantastic short break and were kept up to date with our booking by text from the property owner. We'd definitely recommend this apartment.

Loved No9. The vibrant colours of the furnishings, the David Hockney canvases and the convenience of the location. Every thing you could wish for was there to help your holiday be amazing. Even different tog duvets. The Booths voucher was a great idea, Booths is a great supermarket, like Waitrose. Very convenient being just around the corner.
