A stylish ground floor apartment, located in the charming village of Great Ayton situated on the northern tip of the North York Moors National Park, providing excellent walking opportunities.

A warm welcome awaits in this stunning Great Ayton property. Situated on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, Great Ayton has direct access to an abundance of incredible walks amongst the Cleveland Hills and beyond. Well known as the childhood home of Captain Cook, the village offers an enjoyable afternoon at The Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum – a delightful time spent out with the family.

This two-bedroom ground-floor apartment sits alongside pretty cottages with typically Yorkshire stonework facades. The village is complete with two greens and a river running through, making it a perfect picnic spot in the summer months. It’s ideal for leaving the car behind and staying close to home in the warm and cheerful weather.

On arrival, you’ll find yourself greeted by a fantastic original sign on the exterior, a stylish introduction to the traditional nature of this country cottage. As a Grade II-listed building, formerly a Joiners and Undertakers, you’ll be pleased to see that measures have been taken to retain the original character of the place.

Step first into a generously sized hallway with an abundance of space for boots and coats. Perch on the bench to take off hiking boots which can be effortlessly stored underneath. This bright and cheerful space offers a wonderful jumping-off point for any daily adventures, as well as offering a warm welcome at the end of a busy day.

Continue through the property into an open-plan living space, which sits beneath a characterful arched window that floods the space with light. The characterful street and mature trees can be admired from here, although the privacy of the living space is assured.

The lounge portion of the room features comfortable sofas and matching armchairs, with more than enough space for four guests to spread out on an evening spent indoors. Switch on the Smart TV to catch up on the shows you often forget about throughout your day-to-day life. Alternatively, switch on the Sony Radio or Bluetooth connected CD player to fill the room with music. Here you’ll find an overflowing bookcase filled with books and board games, ideal for those who’d prefer to switch off the electronics and enjoy the tranquillity that this North Yorkshire village can provide.

Naturally, switching on the radio or sound system will certainly be a treat when making full use of the kitchen. Although compact, the contemporary kitchen area of this open-plan living space offers more than enough work surfaces, appliances and equipment for keeping four hungry holidaymakers fed and watered. Sit down together at the adjacent dining table and prepare to spend the evening putting the world to rights. Don’t forget to pick up a bottle of something sparkling to mark any special occasion!

As a downstairs apartment, two beautifully presented bedrooms can be accessed right here on the ground floor. Both decorated with a similar style, the king-size and twin bedrooms each provide a peaceful space to drift off at night and a refreshing place to wake up to in the morning. Featuring a neutral colour scheme with soft linens and comfortable mattresses, each bedroom offers the chance for two guests to achieve a quality night of restful sleep. Although conditions should offer an ever-comfortable space to unwind throughout the winter and summer months, the property does offer a Dyson Fan for additional heating or cooling facilities, ideal for when the unpredictable British weather affects the atmosphere of this two-bedroom space.

When it comes to getting ready in the morning, you’ll also be pleased to find storage units including a built-in wardrobe, multifunction storage drawers and dressing tables on hand for creating your very best look. Make use of the floor-to-ceiling mirror in the master bedroom to get a final view of your outfit before heading out for dinner at night.

Finally, no property is complete without a stylish family bathroom. Designed to match the contemporary style presented throughout the rest of this property, this fitted bathroom features quality tiles, a backlit mirror and a shower over the bath, so you can freshen up in your preferred way.

The attractive village of Great Ayton has a charming village vibe. With a selection of pubs, restaurants, cafes and tearooms, you could eat out every night if you wanted to. As the village was once home to a young Captain Cook, the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum is here where you can find out more about his life in the village and surrounding area.

The vibrant little village of Osmotherly, 14 miles away, is well known as a starting point for walkers and cyclists. This gorgeous little place is truly picture postcard. It also offers excellent facilities including a cafe, village stores and a fish and chip shop.

Situated within the beautiful western reaches of the North York Moors, Osmotherly is in close proximity to lush pastures and woodlands. The western moors play host to grand country houses, atmospheric ruins and handsome market towns, and the views from here are simply stunning with walks and cycle routes in every direction. You are right on the famous Cleveland Way and close to many other well-known and picturesque moorland walks.

With a varied landscape of windswept dales, heather-clad moors and dramatic coast, interspersed with picturesque towns and villages, vibrant cities and a rich historical heritage, Yorkshire is rightly considered one of Britain's premier holiday destinations. Known as ‘God’s Own County’, Yorkshire has nearly one-third of England’s national parkland, two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and three sections of coastline designated as Heritage Coast.

To the east, the North York Moors National Park offers atmospheric moorland, fragrant pine forests and charming towns tucked away within steep-sloped valleys. Extending all the way to the Yorkshire Coast, you can even experience a traditional day at the seaside at popular resorts including Runswick Bay, Sandsend and Staithes (all within 30 miles). It is a beautiful terrain to explore.

A day trip to Whitby, 27 miles away, is a must while you are here. Probably the most visited and certainly one of the best-loved of Yorkshire’s seaside resorts, it offers excellent restaurants, independent shops and a host of bars and cafes as well as a wealth of history.

The town’s narrow twisting yards evolved over a thousand years ago to provide protection from Viking raiders and to help Whitby’s smugglers evade the government revenue men and tax collectors. They are a unique and much-loved feature of this part of the world and you can discover them on foot.

Straddling the River Esk and dominated by the 13th-century ruins of St Hilda’s Abbey on the East Cliff, Whitby is also known for its crooked cobbled streets and picturesque harbour that have been a magnet for artists and tourists for centuries. Providing the backdrop for some of Lewis Carroll’s work, it was also famously the inspiration for Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

We had a really enjoyable Easter stay at the Joinery. Having off-road parking was an advantage as Great Eyton can get quite busy on a sunny day. The accommodation was clean, nicely decorated and welcoming and everything was easy to operate. It was very cosy. The location is a beautiful spot for exploring that part of Yorkshire. There is a Co-op in Read morethe village and several restaurants/cafs. I'd thoroughly recommend. Hide
