A spacious four-bedroom cottage, perfect for families or groups of friends seeking a peaceful base from which to explore the vibrant town of Holmfirth.

Undoubtedly gorgeous both inside and out, this Holmfirth property offers the perfect base for six guests to explore Kirklees, and West Yorkshire further afield. A short mosey downhill leads to the centre of bustling Holmfirth, a characterful town with an abundance of bars and eateries to fill your evenings after long days of exploring the Holme Valley, the West Yorkshire Pennines and the Peak District National Park.

As you approach this stunning property, ascend the external steps and stop for a moment to take in your surroundings. As well as breathing in that fresh northern air, the ever so slightly elevated position of this terraced house offers you a wonderful far-reaching view of the surrounding fields and rolling hills, a joy to behold.

Having dropped coats and shoes in the cottage’s entrance hall, step into the beautiful lounge. Here you’ll be introduced to the property’s overarching interior theme. The owners have lovingly updated this traditional Victorian house to offer a contemporary and stylish place to stay, whilst maintaining plenty of original features that elevate the holiday home to one you won’t quickly forget. High ceilings, large windows with stained-glass and decorative mouldings can be found throughout all three storeys of this property.

An ideal spot for relaxing, the lounge features a warm and welcoming decor with cushy sofas to sink into at the end of each day, a gas fire which promises to keep the room feeling ambient and warm, and a Smart TV in way of entertainment. Select a film or keep the TV off and simply unwind over a bottle of your favourite tipple.

Whilst the lounge affords a sense of peace and quiet, the adjacent kitchen/diner provides a sociable hub of the house where families can unpack the day and plan adventures ahead. Lovingly decorated with a farmhouse-inspired style, this spacious room has been equipped with quality fixtures and fittings and any appliance you might need throughout your stay.

A pretty breakfast table sits at the centre of the room and happily hosts six guests for a lazy lunch or a triumphant evening meal. Those with masses of expedition and adventure planned will be pleased to find a Tassimo coffee machine, ideal for powering up before leaving the house.

As day turns to night, venture upstairs to get ready for bed. A single flight of stairs leads to the first floor and two of the bedrooms on offer, and a generous family bathroom. This bathroom is a quality-sized space with an authentic country style and a built-in bath for soaking away your troubles.

Two incredibly versatile bedrooms are situated on this floor, perfect for varying guest makeups. Both rooms feature zip-and-link beds and an abundance of storage solutions. Whilst one offers a super-king-size bed which can be converted into a full-size twin, the second offers an equally inviting king-size bed which converts to a 2’6” twin - simply request your desired layout when booking the accommodation.

You’ll find two smaller and cosier bedrooms at the very top of the house on the second floor. Simply perfect for children or younger guests, these rooms feature characterful sloped ceilings and stunning country views from the windows and skylights. Filled with character and always kept cosy and inviting, these rooms are made up of a twin and a single. It’s worth noting that these rooms are for alternate sleeping only and care must be taken when standing beneath the low ceilings.

At the rear of the garden sits a generous patio area, complete with an abundance of outdoor furniture and a quality charcoal BBQ for those warm and exciting summer evenings. Absorb the peace and calm of this country location when sitting outside late at night, whether it be around a patio table for an al fresco dinner or enjoying an evening tipple on the rattan sofa set.

Located within effortless reach of Halifax and Huddersfield, the town of Holmfirth boasts excellent connections for enjoying the rich tapestry that is West Yorkshire. Staying within the town itself offers you the chance to explore independently owned shops filled with eclectic wares and sample some of the area’s fantastic bars and restaurants. You can stay close to home with an afternoon touring the town’s vineyard or an evening at the Picturedome, one of North England’s finest music venues.

Halifax is a thriving market town and was once the centre of the wool trade in Victorian England, which blessed the town with wealth and good fortune. Many of the opulent buildings and monuments from this time can still be seen as you walk around the town, including Piece Hall, a magnificent Georgian building which was once the place where weavers sold their cloth. Nowadays, it’s a fabulous place to grab a tasty bite to eat or peruse the independent shops and boutiques, as well as catch some outdoor performances.

Other impressive buildings include Halifax Minster, the town’s gothic church; the Grade II-listed Halifax Town Hall, created by the same man who designed the Houses of Parliament; and Shibden Hall, a 15th-century historic home surrounded by a glorious park, once home to the ‘first modern lesbian’, Anne Lister, who wrote her secret diaries there. The parkland is an excellent place to spend a day, where you can walk beside the pretty flowerbeds, row across the Mere or ride on the miniature train which will delight any children in your party. Kids will also love Eureka! The National Children’s Museum is sure to capture their imaginations with its 400 interactive exhibits.

If you enjoy food, make sure to visit Halifax’s Borough Market, which is a stunning Grade II-listed building hosting an award-winning covered market throughout the week. Sample some local produce and pick up a tasty treat to enjoy back at your luxury holiday cottage.

There is enough to do in Halifax itself to fill a whole holiday, however, if you want to venture further afield, Huddersfield is extremely close by at just 7 miles away and Bradford can be accessed within 20 miles. You could also set out to explore the awe-inspiring landscapes of the Peak District National Park, less than 5 miles away.

We had a great stay here, the layout suited us perfectly as our teens had the top floor to themselves. It was lovely and clean and in a good location for exploring Peak District and Manchester. Nice meal at the local burger restaurant, mezze from Mezze and ice creams from Lick Holmfirth which were amazing. Decent choice of supermarkets nearby.
