Enjoy a relaxing retreat to the Yorkshire coast and stay in this attractive cottage for up to five, with plenty of walking and cycling tracks, attractions and beaches nearby.

Set in the picturesque village of Cloughton, this delightful property is perfect for exploring the beaches and cliffs of the Yorkshire coastline and is ideally situated for diving into the magnificent North York Moors National Park. The village has a couple of friendly traditional country pubs, and there’s a handy and well-stocked post office in the next village along. Keen walkers can head along the Cleveland Way which stretches along the coastline, hugging the cliff-tops and passing Hayburn Wyke, a rocky cove with a waterfall which makes an unforgettable spot for a picnic. Trek along the Cinder Track, a former railway line which offers a 23-mile trail for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The lively seaside town of Scarborough is to the south (5 miles) with its bustling seafront and popular beaches. There are several child-friendly activities and plenty of excellent visitor attractions for grown-ups too, including the Scarborough Sea Life Centre, Scarborough Open Air Theatre and Alpamare Waterpark, all within 4 miles. Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and Ravenscar are all within easy reach (within 15 miles).

Entering this cosy and friendly three-storey cottage, you will be greeted by the airy and welcoming lounge. With a wood burner set in a brickwork inglenook at its heart, this pretty room has been stylishly decorated with great attention to detail and has ample space for you to sit back on the sofas and watch a movie on the Smart TV in the evening. Heading into the light and elegantly designed kitchen, you will find a range of equipment perfect for rustling up all your favourite meals, including an electric hob/oven, microwave and Nespresso coffee machine, as well as a useful dishwasher. When dinner’s ready, serve up your feast and dine at the handy breakfast bar. There’s also a utility area featuring a washer/dryer, which makes a practical space for leaving coats, muddy boots and damp dogs after a long walk along the beach. At the end of the day when you’re ready for bed, head upstairs to the first floor where you will find the first of the property’s three delightful bedrooms: a lovely super-king-size room which can be made up as a twin room on request. There’s also a stunningly decorated bathroom on this floor, complete with a roll-top bath and separate shower, perfect for a refreshing shower at the start of the day or a relaxing soak at the end. A second flight of stairs leads to the second floor and two further bedrooms, both beautifully decorated and tastefully furnished: a charming single room with great views, and a delightful king-size room overlooking Goosedale Moor.

Outside, the back courtyard makes a nice and quiet space perfect for enjoying a morning coffee as you get ready for the day’s activities. There’s storage space for locking up bikes and muddy wellies, and a handy side gate leads out onto a footpath taking you onto a cricket pitch and towards the beautiful Goosedale Moor. There’s unrestricted on-street parking directly outside the property, subject to availability.

The property has a fabulous location on the Yorkshire coast, with all of the delights of Scarborough just 5 miles away, including its gorgeous sandy beaches, cafes and restaurants.

Make your way through the historic streets to explore Scarborough Castle or pop into St Mary's churchyard to visit Anne Bronte's grave. Enjoy a stroll around the South Cliff area, taking in the famous spa and Italian Gardens. Catch the cliff lift down to the beach and walk to the peaceful North Bay, visit the renowned Sea Life Centre or explore the beautiful Peasholm Park with its boating lake, woodland walks and oriental influences. The old railway line which ran from Scarborough to Whitby is now a stunning cycle and walking route and is the perfect choice if you feel like a coastal walk taking in some spectacular scenery. You are also perfectly placed to take in the best of the North York Moors and the Yorkshire coast.

Sitting at the eastern foot of the North York Moors, the region's dramatic landscape of heather and open moorland is just a short drive away. Somewhat smaller than the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors still cover an area of almost 600 square miles, and, like the Dales, you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. But there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the moors. In place of harsh limestone and dramatic peaks, you'll find gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but it’s cast in comforting soft focus.

The rest of the Yorkshire coast is also close by. Much like its Cornish counterpart, the North Yorkshire coastline is a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, this is proper bucket-and-spade territory. That's not to say it's stuck in the past; in fact, the coast's villages and towns combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tearooms sitting alongside upmarket champagne and oyster bars.

This region is best known for the gorgeously Gothic town of Whitby (15 miles). Playing host throughout history to Romans, Saxons, Celts and Danes amongst others, the town's rich heritage is immediately obvious. Straddling the River Esk and dominated by the 13th-century ruins of St Hilda's Abbey on the East Cliff, Whitby's crooked cobbled streets and picturesque harbour have been a magnet for artists and tourists alike for centuries. Robin Hood's Bay (11.5 miles) and Sandsend (17 miles) are also worth a visit, each with its own unique charm.

Very clean and welcoming and in a great position for walking and visiting the coast. On a very busy road, but not too noisy with double glazing. Very small courtyard at the rear which meant a walk to the cricket pitch morning and night with our two dogs
