The attractive village of Great Ayton (6 miles) has a wonderful village vibe. With a selection of places to eat, you could dine out every night if you wanted to. As home to the young Captain Cook, the village has the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum which allows you to find out about his early life in the surrounding area. If you love to walk, head up Roseberry Topping (7 miles), a prominent hill with lots of walking trails that lead up to the distinctive summit.

The picturesque village of Osmotherley (13.5 miles) is well-known as a starting point for walkers and cyclists. This gorgeous little place is real picture-postcard stuff. It also offers excellent facilities including a cafe, village stores and a fish and chip shop. If you're a bit of a foodie, this part of Yorkshire is packed with fantastic gastropubs, restaurants and delis. Situated within the western reaches of the North York Moors, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1987, Osmotherley has close proximity to lush pastures and woodlands. The western moors play host to grand country houses and atmospheric ruins, and the views from here are simply stunning with walks and cycle routes in every direction. You are a couple of miles from the famous Cleveland Way as well as many more well-known and picturesque moorland walks.

Great Ayton’s position at the northern end of the North York Moors means the coast is easily accessible from here. To breathe in the fresh, sea air, head to the seaside town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea (16 miles) with its pier, cliff tramway, golden sand and clean surf.

Beautiful property and the location was just what we imagined was so peaceful, was nice and warm and the hot tub was used even in the cold wintry weather, would definitely come back.

We had a fantastic time at this beautiful place! Piers was so helpful with anything we needed. We stayed on a work retreat and the internet was good speed for what we needed. We were also able to bring our 2 cats! The views were to die for - surrounded by countryside which brought a lot of inspiration for our design plans for our work! The Owl has an idyllic setting with spectacular views on both sides. The accommodation is well planned, comfortable and clean. I would certainly recommend it to others.

Owl is a fantastic property , a lovely light airy space with all the facilities you would ever need., very tasteful and stylish. Truly amazing views, big open skies, you can see for miles both front and back which makes it hard to leave but when you do venture out there are an absolute abundance of interesting places to visit, lovely places to eat Read moreand fabulous walks whatever distance or difficulty level you require. Amazing place to stay. Modern and yet very cosy and comfortable. Had everything you need. Spotlessly clean and very well kept. The secure garden was fantastic for our 2 dogs. The views are beautiful, it was so peaceful, we could have spent our 2 weeks staying in the cottage soaking up the scenery.
