Newport is a welcoming village which makes a fantastic base for exploring the beautiful Yorkshire Wolds. There are plenty of quaint market towns and ancient cities within easy reach including Howden and Goole (both less than 11 miles), and Hull, Beverley and York, which are all within 28 miles.

The delightful market town of Beverley is one of Yorkshire’s best-kept secrets with its stunning 13th-century Beverley Minster often regarded as one of Europe’s finest Gothic churches. Take a look at the town’s medieval architecture before indulging in a spot of shopping around the lively cobbled squares. Finish off with a drink in one of the traditional Yorkshire pubs where time has stood still for decades.

And beyond the town, get to know the gorgeous Yorkshire Wolds – a range of low, rolling hills rising from the River Humber and sweeping along to the stunning cliffs at Flamborough Head. The gentle nature of the countryside here makes it an excellent location for walking and cycling.

The Wolds are also home to many historical homes and religious sites. The Yorkshire coast is a 30-mile drive and makes for a great day out.

The jewel in North Yorkshire's crown, York is a favourite amongst even the most seasoned of travellers. History seeps out of every cobbled street of this ancient walled city, but the crooked old buildings house a fantastic range of contemporary designer shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.

Everywhere in York is easily reachable by foot as this small but perfectly formed city houses most of its main attractions within the city’s ancient walls. Town planning from the Middle Ages means it can take quite some time to get your bearings but finding your way around the labyrinth of warped streets is part of the fun. Make sure you take in York Minster, The Shambles, the Railway Museum and Bettys Tea Room while you're there.

We had a wonderful week away visiting family. The accommodation is faultless and of the highest quality. The two dogs loved the garden and the children thought it was fabulous. The hot tub was a very nice addition which was used by all of us (not the dogs!!). The best recommendation we can give is that we would definitely return. We had the most amazing time. The cottage was beautiful, immaculately clean and equipped with everything we needed and more. I would definitely go again. Lovely setting, very quiet little village but just a short drive to York or Hull when we ventured out.
