A perfect bolthole for a small family nestled in the village of Pickering, this delightful cottage offers cosy accommodation and a fantastic base from which to explore the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

Ideally located for exploring the historic market town of Pickering, this fresh and inviting cottage is just a short stroll from many of the town’s popular amenities, including a range of great restaurants, pubs and shops. For an action-packed day, Dalby Forest (13 miles) is the perfect place for a pedal, whether you’re looking for a leisurely ride or for something more challenging. Take a ride on the North York Moors Steam Railway which will take you all the way to the gorgeous coastal town of Whitby (22 miles) whilst passing through some of the area’s most scenic landscapes.

As you step inside this pretty cottage, the hallway leads you through to the bright, welcoming and spacious open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. The tastefully decorated lounge makes a cosy space for you to unwind in at the end of a fabulous day exploring a beautiful part of the North Yorkshire countryside. Warmed by the heat of the welcoming wood burner, the toasty lounge is an ideal spot for putting feet up, watching a film on TV or chatting late into the night about the day’s events. Heading through to the light, airy and fully equipped kitchen, you will find everything you may need to cook up a feast, including a gas hob, electric oven, fridge, dishwasher and microwave. Take your meal over to the dining table by the side and plan your next day out. Exploring the ground floor further, the bright and refreshing bathroom has a wonderful corner bath with an electric shower, perfect for giving you an invigorating start to the day. There’s a handy utility room with a washing machine and a tumble dryer, which also makes a useful space for coats and muddy boots. At the end of a great day, head upstairs where you will find two light and stylishly decorated bedrooms: a pretty double and a delightful single, each with a high beamed ceiling and plenty of space for storing your belongings.

Step outside and up the garden path to the pretty cottage garden with its well-stocked borders. The charming summerhouse is a great place to unwind in the evenings, with an array of comfortable furniture and a handy coffee machine. The delightful, decked terrace makes a lovely spot for sitting back with a morning coffee and catching up with a good book. There’s a private parking space behind the garden, with roadside parking to the front and back of the property subject to availability.

The vibrant and attractive market town of Pickering is a perfect spot for a relaxing wander around pretty houses, shops and tearooms. Grand Georgian architecture stands alongside cosy traditional cottages to create a picture-postcard location with several excellent restaurants, pubs and cafes in the town. The wonderful North York Moors Railway starts in Pickering, where you can catch a steam train to Whitby and back again through some of the most picturesque countryside in Yorkshire.

Beyond Pickering lies the awe-inspiring North York Moors, a landscape of gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. If you want to get away from it all, take a trip to the top of the high central moorlands, which is also a great option if walking is your thing.

In addition to Pickering, there are many well-heeled towns and villages dotted about the moors, where honey-coloured sandstone buildings lend a warm contrast to the deep purple and green of the surrounding hills. The beautiful market town of Helmsley is 12.5 miles away and is well worth a visit for its great restaurants, cafes and delis. If you fancy a little pampering, you'll also find a fantastic day spa here.

The charming town of Kirkbymoorside is 7 miles away, with its treasure trove of art and antique shops, tearooms, Ryedale Folk Museum and a great market on Wednesdays. There is a theme park and zoo at Flamingo Land, 5 miles away, and Eden Camp, a fascinating modern history museum, is just 8 miles away. You're also close to Castle Howard (15 miles) and York (26.5 miles) and the North Yorkshire coast, so you'll have lots of choice for day trips.
