Discover this delightful cottage located in the tranquil village of South Kilvington, between two Yorkshire National Parks, this is an excellent retreat for countryside lovers, keen walkers and cyclists

This delightful cottage, located in a quiet village between two Yorkshire national parks, is an exquisite country retreat for a family or two couples and their canine companions.

Just a mile from the market town of Thirsk, this lovely cottage has a large private garden and is ideally located for exploring both the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors. Light, airy and immaculately presented, it has plenty of space where you can unwind and relax, and a contemporary kitchen where keen cooks can work while still being part of the conversation around the dining table close by. All the home-from-home essentials are here, including an integrated electric hob/oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a Lavazza coffee machine, while a handy utility room has space for you to hang your coats, leave your boots and houses a washer/dryer.

After dinner or a busy day of sightseeing, make your way along the hallway to the lounge, snuggle up on one of the comfortable sofas and select a film on Sky Movies. There’s a wood burner to add a warm glow in the cooler months, and when night draws in all you have to do is head upstairs for a restful night's sleep in either of the king-size bedrooms – one has a Smart TV and both have plenty of space so you can store your belongings.

Outside is a generously sized wrap-around garden; children and dogs will love the large lawn and there’s a decking area with outdoor furniture, ideal for sundowners. There’s a log and bicycle store, and gas will be provided so you can cook up a treat on the BBQ too.

  • 2 bedrooms - 2 king-size

This substantial cottage lies within the small village of South Kilvington where there’s a good local inn and the traditional market town of Thirsk is just a mile away. Timeless and charming, life here centres around a bustling cobbled market square where you can shop like a local twice a week, while there’s a pleasing selection of independent shops where you’ll find all the essentials and souvenirs. Thirsk is famous as the home of fictional veterinarian James Herriot, and another famous son, Thomas Lord, was the founder of Lord’s Cricket ground – his 1755 birthplace is now Thirsk Museum.

Beautiful Bedale, 16 miles away, is a great place to have a coffee and then make your way around the town's antique shops and independent boutiques. If you consider yourself a foodie, you’ll be delighted by the range of local produce, including beers and cheeses, on offer.

The vibrant cathedral city of Ripon, 14 miles south-west, boasts a Thursday market, numerous eateries and a nice collection of independent shops to explore. The cathedral is smaller than its neighbour, York Minster, but is still an awe-inspiring sight. In addition, every night for at least 450 years the Ripon Hornblower has sounded the curfew at 9pm from all four sides of the obelisk in the market place, come rain or shine, followed by a 15-minute history of the ceremony and the city – an experience not to be missed!

If you are partial to a flutter, Ripon Race Ground has around 15 meets from April to early September and is known as 'Yorkshire's Garden Racecourse' because of the traditional tearooms and bandstands that sit alongside a more contemporary champagne bar. Nearby, Fountains Abbey and the gorgeous Studley Royal Water Garden is deservedly one of the National Trust's most visited locations. As well as the spectacular ruins of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey, the grounds are home to an Elizabethan Mansion, a medieval deer park and some of the most romantic vistas in the country.

For a walk on the western edge of the North York Moors, head to the vibrant village of Osmotherley (10 miles). This gorgeous little place is picture-postcard pretty and has excellent facilities including a cafe, village stores and a fish and chip shop.
