Property code: 88184

This newly converted farm building is situated on the edge of York, an ideal retreat for a city break, a walking holiday, or a day at the races.

This stylish barn conversion is in the heart of a beautiful village on the outskirts of York. Spacious, sociable interiors and fantastic transport links to the cathedral city make it an ideal choice for a small family or group of friends… and one canine companion can come too.

Unwind in a wonderfully welcoming Yorkshire village where the countryside credentials are cemented by a maypole on the green, a choice of friendly local pubs and a mini-supermarket that will supply all your self-catering needs. Enjoy riverside walks from your doorstep, hop on the bus or train to explore one of England's most historic cities, or drive further afield and you can discover the delights of the North Yorkshire Moors and Yorkshire Dales – a holiday here can be as busy or laid-back as you’d like.

Original beams, lovingly chosen furnishings and all the easy-living essentials make this former barn a home-from-home that’s memorable for all the right reasons. One of a small cluster of expertly restored buildings, the property is light and airy, thanks in part to the two entrance doors that lead to both its kitchen and lounge.

In the first, you’ll find all the contemporary must-haves including an electric oven, induction hob, microwave, fridge and full-size dishwasher. Enjoy coffee and cereal at the breakfast bar or take your home-cooked evening meal into the adjacent dining area where you can eat and enjoy good conversation in a more formal setting. The lounge has lovely terrace garden views, comfortable seating and a Smart TV so you can keep up with your viewing favourites.

And when it’s time to retire, a staircase leads up to two large bedrooms, each with original beams and a calming ambience. One has a double bed, the other has twin zip-and-link beds – for ultimate flexibility, this can be made up as a super-king-size on request – and each has easy access to the modern shower room.

Doors from both the kitchen and lounge open onto a small terrace with garden furniture – enjoy food and drinks as you soak up the sunshine and sounds of the countryside!

  • 2 bedrooms - 1 double and 1 twin zip-and-link (which can be made up as a super-king-size on request)
  • 1 shower room - large walk-in shower
  • Induction hob, electric oven, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher and microwave
  • Smart TV with Sky package including films and sports
  • Air-source heating system with underfloor heating throughout
  • Travel cot available on request (cot sheets not provided)
  • Small enclosed terrace with garden furniture
  • Secure off-road parking
  • Village shop and pubs (advance booking recommended) short walk away
  • Bus and train station within walking distance and Poppleton Park & Ride nearby
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 1 dog allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week
  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £200 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £25. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

Excellent public transport links mean you can explore York car-free – regular bus and train services run from the village into the walled city, that’s one of England’s best year-round locations. History seeps out of every cobbled street and it’s easy to reach all the top sites on foot; alongside the fashionable designer shops, restaurants and bars, your York bucket list is sure to include the Minster, The Shambles, Jorvik Viking Centre, the Railway Museum and Bettys Cafe Tea Rooms. For a peaceful city experience, take a stroll around one of the city’s parks and gardens. Dean's Park is next to the Minster, the Yorkshire Museum Gardens is next to the River Ouse and there’s also Rowntree Park with its children's playground, tennis courts and bowling green.

If you’re happy to get behind the wheel there’s much to explore further afield in England’s largest county. The smaller cathedral city of Ripon is 23 miles north-west; alternatively, head 20 miles north-east to Malton, a town of makers and markets that’s known as Yorkshire’s Food Capital. The grand Victorian spa town of Harrogate – 18.5 miles west – effortlessly combines traditional elegance with contemporary style and is best known for its antiques and fine art. If old paintings and furniture aren’t your bag, however, there are a host of other reasons to visit, including high fashion outlets and enough fine eateries to keep you fuelled for weeks.

On the edge of the North York Moors, the pretty town of Kirkbymoorside (26 miles) has much to offer, including a weekly market. Beyond is a landscape like no other, a place of gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodlands and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. At the heart of the national park, the famous Blakey Ridge affords some of the best views in the country.
