Enjoy a magnificent stay at this gorgeous former barn at Newton-on-Rawcliffe in North Yorkshire. Sleeping seven guests, the three-bedroom, dog-friendly abode nestles on a tranquil site in the village together with several other holiday properties. Head back to your delightful, single-storey retreat after exciting days out to unwind with your family and friends and to make the most of the shared access you have to the indoor swimming pool, sauna and hot tub.

Immerse yourselves in the spectacular countryside surrounding the village as often as possible. Venture out to explore the dramatic North Yorkshire Moors National Park or the picturesque North Riding Forest Park from the barn. Make the most of being just 4 miles from the market town of Pickering, with its medieval castle and museum, as well as its station on the heritage North Yorkshire Moors Railway. From Newton-on-Rawcliffe, you could also organise a visit to Scarborough, 22.5 miles away on the coast.

Step inside this exquisite barn, leaving your walking boots and jackets in the entrance, to discover an open-plan lounge/diner, with a high vaulted ceiling, beams and exposed stone wall. Stoke up the wood burner in here after bracing autumn and winter walks, search for your favourite television programme on the Smart TV or play games long into the evening.

Decide whose turn it is to whip up a tasty meal with the fresh Yorkshire produce you have bought through in the kitchen then set the table and gather round to enjoy it together.

When eyelids begin to droop, make your way through to the double room, the twin or the family room, which features a bunk with a double bed below and a single above. There are two family bathrooms to choose between at this property.

Stroll through the shared grounds, which include a water garden with a pond, and a patio with picnic tables, at your leisure. Amble over to the pool house to do a few lengths of the 6-metre exercise pool or to have a sauna or hot tub after your trips out. There is parking for two cars with this barn.

  • 3 bedrooms - 1 double, 1 twin and a double bunk bed (double on the bottom and a single on top)
  • 2 bathrooms - 1 with shower and WC, 1 with shower over the bath and WC
  • Electric oven and hob, fridge, dishwasher and microwave
  • Two shared washing machines and a tumble dryer (operated by coin meter) are located in a separate laundry room
  • Travel cot and highchair available on request
  • Wood burner
  • Smart TV with Netflix
  • Communal courtyard with benches, access to shared gardens including a water garden area with a pond and bridge
  • Private parking for 2 cars
  • Communal swimming pool 6m x 3m, 1.2 m deep  - children must be supervised. Open 10am to 8pm
  • Communal hot tub and sauna - please note sauna is free but does need a £1 to operate which is returned
  • Bath and hand towels are provided. Please bring your own for the hot tub or swimming
  • Pub is a short walk away (check for opening times and if serving food) and shop 5 miles
  • Please note that the property does have increased accessibility but there is no turning space in the bedroom for large wheelchairs.
  • PLEASE NOTE - This property is not suitable for parties due to being in a residential area and the owners kindly request that you consider the neighbours by keeping the noise down outside after 10pm.
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas
  • Arrival: 17:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 2 dogs allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week
  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £250 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £30. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

Plan exciting expeditions from the barn at Newton-on-Rawcliffe. Discover the property is in an excellent position for accessing vibrant Pickering, for example, where you can wander the pretty streets, peruse independent shops and ponder in tearooms, cafes and pubs.

Discover Georgian architecture in the town standing alongside cosy traditional cottages, creating a picture-postcard backdrop to your afternoons out. The North York Moors Railway starts in Pickering, and from here you can catch a steam or heritage diesel train to Whitby and back again through some of the most picturesque countryside in Yorkshire.

Further afield, you can explore the awe-inspiring North York Moors, a landscape of gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. If you want to head deeper into the naturally beautiful landscape, take a trip to the top of the high central moorlands, an area known for its superb hiking.

Also visit the other delightful towns and villages of these fascinating moors, where honey-coloured sandstone buildings lend a warm contrast to the deep purple and green of the surrounding hills. The charming town of Kirkbymoorside is 11.5 miles from your barn, with its treasure trove of art and antiques’ shops, tearooms, Ryedale Folk Museum and a lively market on Wednesdays.

There is a theme park and zoo at Flamingo Land, 9 miles away, and Eden Camp, a fascinating modern history museum, is an 11.5-mile drive. Head to Scarborough, 22.5 miles away, to see the castle or to go to the beach and enjoy a traditionally British day out at the seaside.

Loved this property. Good layout, well appointed, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the spa facilities. Found accessing Pickering for an evening meal, by taxi easy and reasonably priced. Keen walkers we took advantage of a stretch of the tabular hills walk out of the door. We enjoyed a pint or two in the pub next door

The cottage was very nice and well equipped, everything we needed was there. However, the metal beds were very uncomfortable and would help if replaced. The Pool could have been opened longer so we could use early morning or later when back from our days out. The village is very quiet, no shops, Pickering 5 miles away. We went to one pub in the vilRead morelage for a meal (6 of us plus 1 baby) and were told we weren't local and did not have enough food as it was curry night and told we had to leave. Hide

The double bed was extremely hard and not at all comfortable and the shower room was constantly wet all over the floor. I know its a wet room but a shower screen would have kept water away from the toilet and sink areas. However overall the cottage was lovely clean and cosy and the leisure facilities were a big plus for my two grandchildren.
