Immerse yourselves in the Yorkshire seaside town of Scarborough when you stay at this light-filled triplex apartment on the high street. Sleeping six guests, the three-bedroom, first-floor bolthole is well-positioned for the many attractions of the town, as well as other locations on the North Yorkshire coast and in the North York Moors National Park.

Visit the historic castle, situated on a prominent headland with delightful views over the town and across the bays. Walk through the famous parks and gardens or discover the traditional amusement arcades, ice cream parlours, shellfish stalls, restaurants and bars across the seafront. Plan a day out to Whitby, 19.5 miles away, with its famous 7th-century abbey, pausing in the village of Robin Hood’s Bay, 16 miles away, along the way.

Unload your car in the parking area outside the building before heading off to park elsewhere. Climb the exterior steps up to the apartment and enter to find beautifully renovated accommodation, with high ceilings and other Victorian features, arranged over the first, second and third floors.

Head down to the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner, which will quickly become the heart of the holiday home during your stay. Take advantage of the well-equipped kitchen, where home-cooked meals can be prepared and enjoyed at the breakfast with bar stools, on those occasions you choose not to dine out in Scarborough. Relax on the inviting sofas, in front of a late-night film on the Smart TV or for a family games night. A family shower room is also at this level.

Make your way up the first set of stairs to find a homely king-size bedroom, with a large bay window where you can watch the world go by beneath, and a twin room with a TV. Open a door on the landing to discover narrow stairs up to the third bedroom, which has a double bed.

Soak up the Yorkshire sunshine out on the small terrace on fine days. Have breakfast, lunch or dinner out here at the picnic bench. Parking for this apartment is pay and display or in a nearby multi-storey car park, subject to availability.

Step out from the apartment to explore Scarborough on foot. Make your way through the historic streets to see the castle or pop into St Mary’s churchyard to visit Anne Bronte’s grave. Enjoy a stroll around South Cliff, taking in the famous spa and Italian Gardens.

Catch the cliff lift down to the beach to swim or walk around to the peaceful North Bay; visit the renowned Sea Life Centre or explore the beautiful Peasholm Park with its boating lake, woodland walks and oriental influences.

The old railway line, which ran from Scarborough to Whitby, is now a stunning cycle and walking route and is perfect if you feel like a coastal walk taking in some spectacular scenery. You are also well placed to take in the best of the North York Moors, Yorkshire coast and York. Sitting at the eastern foot of the North York Moors, the region’s dramatic landscape of heather and open moorland is just a short drive away.

Somewhat smaller than the Yorkshire Dales, the North York Moors still cover an area of almost 600 square miles, and, like the Dales, you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. But there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the moors. In place of harsh limestone and dramatic peaks, you’ll find gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but it’s cast in comforting soft focus.

The rest of the Yorkshire coast is also close by. Much like its Cornish counterpart, the North Yorkshire coastline is a heady mix of rugged cliff tops, peaceful bays and pretty fishing villages. With long sandy beaches and all the traditional seaside trimmings of yesteryear, this is genuine bucket-and-spade territory. The coast’s villages and towns also combine the traditional with the contemporary effortlessly, with trinket shops and tea rooms sitting alongside upmarket champagne and oyster bars.

This region is also known for the gorgeously gothic town of Whitby, 19.5 miles away. Playing host throughout history to Romans, Saxons, Celts and Danes among others, the town’s rich heritage is immediately obvious. Straddling the River Esk and dominated by the 13th-century ruins of St Hilda’s Abbey on the East Cliff, Whitby’s crooked cobbled streets and picturesque harbour have been a magnet for artists and tourists alike for centuries. Robin Hood’s Bay, 16 miles away, and Sandsend, 21.5 miles, are also worth visiting, each with its own unique charm.

Beautifully redecorated and clean apartment in a great central location. We loved discovering pretty Scarborough on foot from the apartment. The owners were also friendly and helpful. We found loads of great coffee shops, restaurants and takeout places within 5 minutes walk from the apartment - as well as grocery stores.
