Step over the threshold of this delightful cottage, which is brimming with character, to feel instantly at home in the welcoming lounge with its beamed ceiling and stone fireplace. Light the wood burner in here then settle down to a movie on the Smart TV. As you climb the stairs to retire for the evening, you will find four tastefully decorated bedrooms: a super-king-size, with an en-suite shower room, a double, a twin, with zip-and-link beds that can also be arranged as a super-king-size upon request, and a single. To the rear of the property, is an enclosed patio area with furniture where you can relax under the stars in the evening, breathe in the fresh country air and enjoy a glass of wine with your family and friends. Stroll from Gayle alongside the pretty beck into the enchanting little market town of Hawes. With a name meaning “pass between mountains,” it stands between the stunning Buttertubs and Fleet Moss and is most famous for being the home of Wensleydale cheese. In fact, while you are here, you can visit Wensleydale Creamery, made famous by the animated Wallace and Grommit films. It also boasts some lovely shops, pubs and tearooms.

Walkers will also adore the town as the Pennine Way passes through it, making it the perfect starting point for exploring the countryside. The stunning landscape of Wensleydale includes 25 miles of lush valleys, criss-crossed with the area’s iconic dry-stone walls and you can venture out on foot or by bicycle from here on some exciting adventures.

Aysgarth, 9 miles away, is also worth visiting while you are in the gorgeous Yorkshire Dales National Park. This charming village is home to the picturesque Aysgarth Falls, which were featured in the film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves! It also boasts many great options to eat, including popular pubs and cute cafes. If you visit in spring, you can’t leave without a visit to Freeholders’ Wood where bluebells, anemones and primroses will be in full bloom.

History lovers will be fascinated by visits to Bolton Castle, Middleham Castle and Jervaulx Abbey, which are 12, 18 and 21.5 miles from the cottage, respectively and well worth a day trip. Bolton Castle dates back to the 14th century and once held Mary, Queen of Scots prisoner, while Middleham Castle was the childhood home of Richard III. Jervaulx Abbey is the country’s largest privately-owned Cistercian Abbey and offers peace and tranquillity to its visitors.

Our family of 6 adults, one child, one 3 month old baby and 2 dogs loved Rose Cottage. It has such a homely feel and we were chilled from day 1 . The beds were extremely comfortable and the 2 bathrooms provided hot water at all times. The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed cooking in it. The 2 living rooms were cosy .

Rose Cottage is extremely well equipped, clean, warm and comfortable. It's a great location just a short walk from the bustling market town Hawes which has a good selection of shops and eateries. Lots of local walks and a fairly central to the Northern part of the Dales making it good base to explore further a field. Brendon, was very informative aRead morend immediately sorted a minor niggle. We all had a great time and would not hesitate to recommend it. Big cars should use the nearby free car park. Hide
