Escape to the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and experience a holiday like no other, treating your family to outdoor adventures galore. Immerse yourself in a tapestry of sweeping pastures, rugged heather-clad moorland and vast expanses of water, navigating countryside trails with a picnic in tow. When your feet grow weary, your comfortable abode awaits, as you line up an evening snuggled up by the wood burner and delving into bowls of buttery popcorn.

Situated on the cusp of Ilkley’s bustling town centre, this cosy and contemporary haven is tucked on the lower ground floor of an impressive stone building. Sleeping four, it is the perfect base for friends and couples looking to explore this popular spa town and the countryside beyond. You’ll be just a few hundred metres from the town centre, where there are a whole host of amenities on the doorstep. Bursting with luxurious shops and tasty eateries, the town is understandably one of the most popular places to visit in North Yorkshire, and the surrounding moors offer breathtaking scenery and dramatic landscapes to explore.

Seven external steps from the garden lead down to the front door of this delightful apartment, which welcomes you with neutral decor and ambient lighting. The furniture has been hand-picked with comfort in mind, and the quirky accessories add a sense of fun to the overall interior. Enter to discover a charming kitchen that’s equipped with all the essential gadgets for rustling up a hearty meal. There’s an electric oven, gas hob, microwave and fridge, plus plenty of storage for all those delicious goodies you’ll find in town. Whether you are sizzling a breakfast of kings or plating up a tempting takeaway at teatime, you’ll have everything you need at your fingertips. Move along the corridor where you will find a handy utility cupboard with plenty of space for coats and muddy boots, plus a washing machine and a small tumble dryer for all your laundry needs.

Slip through to the spacious lounge/diner and make yourself at home, snuggling up on the sofas and sipping a glass of your favourite tipple. Light the wood burner and watch it cast its soothing glow across the room as you prepare for a night of board games or alternatively, switch on the Smart TV for a family film session with plenty of snacks and treats. The owners have even provided a welcome pack to help kick-start your stay.

Off the lounge is the stylish Jack and Jill shower room with a WC, ideal for invigorating showers following a long day of exploring. This leads through to a single bedroom that’s crisply dressed and ready for slumber, complete with an additional pull-out bed suitable for a child. For those with two youngsters in tow, it is a sanctuary for sleepovers. Finally, there is the main bedroom - a simple yet elegant room with a double bed tucked in the nook that once served as the grand fireplace.

On balmy summer nights, you can fire up the BBQ and grill something tasty to be served with your bottle of fizz. Perch on the patio and admire the enclosed garden that’s adorned with flowers and plants, then watch as sunset gives way to night, sending a scattering of stars across the horizon. There is an off-road parking spot for one car, and a bicycle rack that will come in useful for your adventures on two wheels. On the nights you feel like a break from cooking, the nearest pub/restaurant is within a 0.5-mile stroll.

Ilkley is set against an impressive backdrop of heather-coated moorland studded with craggy tors throughout the rolling hills. The Wharfe Valley is a treat to explore whether you are a gentle ambler or an experienced hiker. Set off with your camera and unearth the Dales Way, admiring the dramatic backdrop of the Yorkshire Dales National Park or exploring unrivalled beauty spots in the Nidderdale AONB within 20 miles. If you prefer to stay close to home, set off and find Ilkley Moor overlooking the town centre and offering an effortless yet rewarding walking route. Uncover the history of the Cow and Calf Rocks or try your hand at scrambling on some of the town’s crags.

There’s no better way to round off an afternoon of adventures than with lunch in one of Ilkley’s pretty tearooms. Make time to visit the traditional Victorian-era café which is a must-visit when spending time in the Yorkshire countryside. Or perhaps save yourself for a more indulgent evening meal, making use of one of Ilkley’s quality restaurants or gastropubs within the town centre.

Time your visit with one of the annual festivals such as the Real Food Market, Summer Festival or Literature Festival and soak up the atmosphere, or simply enjoy a browse around the pretty shops. The neighbouring town of Skipton (9.5 miles) also boasts eclectic shops filled with independent wares and an abundance of quality eateries. The town also hosts an annual Sheep Day, honouring the agrarian town’s rich history as a sheep-selling hub.

Bolton Abbey, 6.5 miles away, is a must for history seekers with its imposing ruins, and if you venture further into the Dales, you’ll be rewarded with pretty towns and villages such as Pateley Bridge (19 miles), or why not plan a visit to the grand Victorian spa town of Harrogate (20.5 miles)? Best known for its antiques and fine art, Harrogate has antique dealers and galleries around every corner, particularly around the Montpellier Quarter. If buying old paintings and furniture isn't your bag, there are a host of other reasons to part with your cash in Harrogate. High-fashion outlets nestle alongside lavish interior boutiques, punctuated with enough fine restaurants and cafes to keep you fuelled for weeks.

If you have time, we highly recommend a session at the famous Turkish Baths. Rejuvenate spirit and soul after a day on the town. If you're travelling with children, Harrogate is famous for its outdoor space with lots of parkland and greenery everywhere. The RHS gardens at Harlow Carr are also a fantastic option for families.

A cottage in a perfect location close to the river and the centre of Ilkley, which would have benefitted from a little more attention to detail, which would have made our stay even more enjoyable.

Great little flat for 2 adults & 2 teens. The location was lovely; close to the river/park and also to the shops/pubs/restaurants of Ilkley. A great stay in a flat excellently placed for exploring Ilkley. We took a couple of trains whilst there; the walk to the station is only about 8 minutes. Behind the flat are steps which go down to the park and river, and in front is a garden with table and chairs which we would have used more often had the weather permitted! There is good storage iRead moren the living area for coats and boots and a washing machine and dryer. For two adults the flat was great. For more it might be a bit tight. Hide
