Property code: 90213

This is the perfect romantic bolthole hidden away among the rolling West Yorkshire countryside, close to the long-distance trail, the Calderdale Way. Once a farm building, it has now been lovingly converted into a characterful space for you, your loved one and your canine companion.

Head inside this stone-built, single-storey property and find yourself within the sumptuous, open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. Vaulted ceilings and skylights provide a bright and airy space where you can cook up a storm in the practical and contemporary kitchen. Once you’re done preparing delectable meals together, you can enjoy them at the breakfast bar which will seat you both. Spend chilly evenings wrapped up together on one of the comfortable sofas in the lounge while you watch something on the TV, get stuck into a good book, or plan the days ahead.

When you are ready for some sleep, head through to the splendid bedroom which has a beamed ceiling and is super warming and welcoming. It also contains a stylish en-suite shower room with a WC. Indulge in a glass of your favourite tipple or enjoy dining alfresco in the outside courtyard. Take a seat on the bench and watch the world go by.

The little village of Greetland has plenty of amenities to keep you occupied during your stay. Choose from several pubs offering up a variety of dishes and drinks, as well as a couple of restaurants and coffee shops. If you are keen walkers, you should head off along the Calderdale Way, a 50-mile walk which winds through the undulating hills, moors and valleys of Calderdale and passes alongside the village. The bustling town of Halifax (3 miles) has plenty to see and do in the way of shops, restaurants and intriguing museums.

Halifax is situated 3 miles away from this cottage, a thriving market town once the centre of the wool trade in Victorian England, which blessed the town with wealth and good fortune. Many of the opulent buildings and monuments from this time can still be seen as you walk around the town, including Piece Hall, a magnificent Georgian building, which was once the place where weavers sold their cloth. Nowadays, it’s a fabulous place to grab a tasty bite to eat or peruse the independent shops and boutiques, as well as catch some outdoor performances.

Other impressive buildings include Halifax Minster, the town’s Gothic church, the Grade II-listed Halifax Town Hall, created by the same man who designed the Houses of Parliament, and Shibden Hall, a 15th-century historic home surrounded by glorious parkland, once home to the ‘first modern lesbian’, Annie Lister, who wrote her secret diaries there. The parkland is an excellent place to spend a day, where you can walk beside the pretty flowerbeds, row across the mere or ride on the miniature train which will delight any children in your party. Kids will also love Eureka! The National Children’s Museum, which is sure to capture their imaginations with its 400 interactive exhibits.

If you enjoy food, make sure to visit Halifax’s Borough Market, which is a stunning Grade II-listed building hosting an award-winning covered market throughout the week. Sample some local produce and pick up a tasty treat to enjoy back at your luxury holiday cottage.

There is enough to do in Halifax itself to fill a whole holiday, however, if you want to venture further afield, Huddersfield and Bradford are both within 8 miles of the town, or you could set out to explore the awe-inspiring landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, 26 miles away from the property.

The cottage is clean, pleasant and well supplied. It is situated in a fascinating part of Yorkshire with steep valleys and rugged moorlands with splendid views across the valleys. In addition, you can access Manchester or Leeds via junction 22 of the M62. I enjoyed my stay there and would like to go back there. Hide

Very nice cottage... only real complaint is the WI-FI is pretty much unusable because it is so slow and disconnects frequently. If it were me, I would have the internet provider come to the cottage and figure out why its so slow and spotty.

This is a lovely cottage for two, well located with walks from the door onto the Calderdale Way and other paths. There is a bus service close by and a pub serving nice food. The cottage was well thought out and equipped and always warm on very cold March days. There is good outdoor space for sitting out and off-road parking. We would happily stay aRead moregain. Hide

The lodge is small but comfy, well equipped & a good base. Need to drive to buy food but pubs serving food not far. There wasnt a wood burner! Amazing!! Wood burners cause tiny particles of soot, eco friendly ones are just as bad, which get into the blood and cause cancers. So it was fantastic there wasnt one! Thank you. There is a lot of road noise though but it didnt bother us as the pluses outweigh this irritation. Easy to get to Shibden Hall, Piece Hall and Read moreHebden Bridge.
