Nestled within the grounds of a welcoming holiday park, this character-packed property has all the makings of a lavish family holiday for six, and you’ll be well positioned for exploring the glorious landscape that surrounds you. Escrick is a chocolate-box Yorkshire village with a friendly reputation and a selection of taste bud tantalising eateries including a gastropub, restaurant, and a popular hotel that boasts a spa and dining facilities. York itself is only 9 miles away and is steeped in character and history with beautiful, cobbled streets, museums, local markets and a glorious minster – a beautiful city to explore any time of year. The market town of Selby is located just 5.5 miles away on the river Ouse, with many local shops and delicatessens. It is famous for its historic abbey as well as for being part of the Trans Pennine Trail cycleway.

Marvel at the peaceful setting as you ascend the steps up to the decking, pausing to appreciate views of woodland from the wrap-around veranda. Beyond the property is a wildlife pond that offers a soothing backdrop to al fresco meals, best enjoyed with a glass of something special as you fire up the BBQ. The biggest treat of all is the private hot tub tucked under the gazebo, offering a decadent spot to relax and unwind at leisure whatever the weather.

Enter this sleek, modern lodge to discover welcome packs including robes and slippers to borrow. The open-plan living space is cleverly divided into a lounge/kitchen/diner that’s filled with natural light that pours in through the French doors. Discard your boots and snuggle up on the cosy seating, watching your favourite film on the Smart TV, or gathering family and friends for an evening of board games and merriment.

The kitchen is fitted with a breakfast bar and plenty of worktop space, and there is an electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, and microwave for your convenience. For those who can’t resist an excellent quality pick-me-up, the coffee machine is sure to be a hit. Dish-up hearty feasts and tuck-in around the table, swapping stories and sharing memories until the early hours. Round off your evening with hot chocolate topped with marshmallows, slipping outside to stargaze with the sound of the gently shimmering pond close by.

When it is time for bed, head through to the back of the lodge to find the three bedrooms. One offers zip-link beds that can be made up into a super-king-size bed or a set of twin beds on request. Next, the elegant king-size bedroom has handy fitted wardrobes, and the final bedroom is a further king-size bedroom with an en-suite shower room and a Smart TV for lazy lie-ins. A family shower room completes the property for invigorating morning showers.

The holiday park setting boasts an array of activities for all ages and is surrounded by beautiful woodland walks, cycle trails and countryside. Tennis courts, a fishing lake, a bowling green and bike hire are also available (additional charges apply). There is a general EV charging point on the holiday park but not specific for the lodge.

The jewel in North Yorkshire's crown, we think York is one of the best short break destinations in England and is a favourite amongst even the most seasoned of travellers. This ancient walled city has been the north's spiritual capital for 2,000 years, but that's not to say it is stuck in the past; York's affluent population and its influx of tourist pounds has helped to create a cultural and commercial oasis. History seeps out of every cobbled street, but the crooked old buildings house a fantastic range of contemporary designer shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.

Everywhere in York is easily reachable by foot as this small but perfectly formed city houses most of its main attractions within the city walls. Middle Ages' town planning means it can take quite some time to get your bearings but finding your way around the labyrinth of warped streets is part of the fun. Make sure you take in York Minster, The Shambles, the Railway Museum and Bettys tearoom whilst you're there.

If you are looking for outside space in which to relax, you have the choice of a number of parks and gardens, including Dean's Park next to the Minster, the Yorkshire Museum Gardens next to the River Ouse and, slightly further afield, Rowntree Park with its children's playground, tennis courts and bowling green.

And, what's more, it really is a year-round location. Summer days can be spent lounging in one of the gorgeous parks and, in the autumn, York comes alive with shop windows sparkling in the dusky light. Its central location also makes a great base from which to explore the rest of glorious Yorkshire, with the Yorkshire Dales, North York Moors and Yorkshire coastline all within easy reach for beautiful walks and adventurous days out.

If walking or cycling is your thing, there are lots of beautiful paths and routes in the area. If you fancy serious hiking, the North York Moors landscape offers some of the best trails in the country. Take a trip up to the top of the high moorlands around Blakey Ridge (35 miles) and breathe in that clear Yorkshire air.

The lodge was very clean and well appointed. Our grandson enjoyed the hot tub, which was cleaned twice a day by the Hollicarrs staff. Also he used the tennis court on site. Also we would recommend the on site Olivias tearoom. Very convenient location for visits to York.
