Making the most of both the coast and the countryside, a wonderful day out can be spent by hopping aboard the scenic North Yorkshire Moors Railway line to Whitby, travelling through woodland and moorland before ending beside the sea.

Retaining much of its original charm, you’re sure to fall in love with the quirks of this property, from the exposed wooden beams to the exposed brick fireplace which brings warmth to the living room. Seamlessly blending the old with the new, the living room boasts elegant hues of blue alongside red bricks and natural wood to create a cosy environment for you to unwind at the end of each day. The social hub is the kitchen, where you’ll find a bright space for cooking and eating which has been sympathetically updated to ensure you have everything you need.

Upstairs, the master bedroom features a sumptuous double bed and a delightful wooden dressing table whilst the second bedroom features a single, perfect for children. The shower room completes the floor.

Through the stable door in the kitchen, you can access the generous private garden. Boasting a raised lawned area and a patio, you can really make the most of the sunshine with your morning coffee or a late-night dinner eaten under the stars.

Being so close to the North York Moors opens up a patchwork of pathways to explore during your stay, including awe-inspiring circular trails from the village of Kirkbymoorside so that you can leave the car at home for the day. Just 3 miles away is the delightful village of Hutton-le-Hole, often named one of the prettiest villages in Yorkshire due to its sweeping village green, moorland sheep and serene stream where you can stop off for a bite to eat and soak in the serenity of this part of the UK.

The vibrant and attractive market town of Pickering (8 miles) is perfect for a relaxing wander around its pretty houses, shops and tearooms. Grand Georgian architecture stands alongside cosy traditional cottages to create a picture-postcard location with several excellent restaurants, pubs and cafes in the town. The wonderful North York Moors Railway starts in Pickering, where you can catch a steam train to Whitby and back again through some of the most picturesque countryside in Yorkshire.

Beyond Pickering lies the awe-inspiring North York Moors, a landscape of gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. If you want to get away from it all, take a trip to the top of the high central moorlands, which is also a great option if walking is your thing.

In addition to Pickering, there are many well-heeled towns and villages dotted about the moors, where honey-coloured sandstone buildings lend a warm contrast to the deep purple and green of the surrounding hills. The beautiful market town of Helmsley is 6 miles away and is well worth a visit for its great restaurants, cafes and delis. If you fancy a little pampering, you'll also find a fantastic day spa here.

The charming town of Kirkbymoorside is less than a mile away, with its treasure trove of art and antique shops, tearooms, Ryedale Folk Museum and a great market on Wednesdays. There is a theme park and zoo at Flamingo Land, 10 miles away, and Eden Camp, a fascinating modern history museum, is just 14.5 miles away. You're also close to Castle Howard (12 miles) and York (26.5 miles) as well as the North Yorkshire coast, so you'll have lots of choice for day trips.

Lovely cottage, clean and well equipped. Loved the different levels and especially the tv area. Garden was nice with good seats and table. Didn't use the log fire as warm enough with a little heating. Welcome pack had a good range of items.

A very clean cottage with a lovely welcoming hamper. It is in a good place for exploring local towns, the North Yorkshire Moors and coast and visits to York. One thing to note is the internal steps as the old cottage has a number of different levels.
