The vibrant and bustling market town of Huddersfield is just 8 miles away from this romantic bolthole. Set in the foothills of the Pennines with the Peak District 5 miles away, the town provides a wonderful mix of city living and countryside adventures for holiday makers who like a mix of both.

Once a thriving mill town due to the rivers surrounding it providing water for its cloth trade, Huddersfield boomed in the Victorian era. It now retains much of its Victorian architecture which can be seen by exploring the Huddersfield Historic Buildings Trail, a route that passes listed and iconic buildings.

Huddersfield also boasts several urban parks. The tranquil Greenhead Park (9 miles) which has a lake, a cafe and free-to-use tennis courts if it takes your fancy. The 20-acre Beaumont Park (7.5 miles) sits on the cusp of the town and has vast woodlands, an adventure play park and ornate features you can admire and explore. Once a private residence, Ravensknowle Park (9 miles) is now an expansive park offering wonderful walking opportunities and is home to the Tolson Memorial Museum where you can see a fascinating collection of artefacts and artwork that paints a vivid picture of Huddersfield’s rich history.

There is a wide range of shops, restaurants, pubs and bars in Huddersfield, and the town is home to various food and street markets for you to peruse. The John Smith’s Stadium is home to Huddersfield Town Football Club but is a multi-use stadium that hosts a wide range of sporting and entertainment events.

While there is plenty to keep you busy in Huddersfield, the stunning Peak District National Park is 5 miles away where you can challenge yourself to fell and hill climbs or take it easy on gentle strolls passing beautiful landscapes. The park is also great for keen cyclists, with bridleways and traffic-free trails that offer something for all abilities.

This cottage was perfect for us and what we wanted to do which was walking and enjoying peace and quiet but within easy reach of a traditional and unspoilt Yorkshire town. There were also two farm shops practically next door to the cottage, both of which had excellent products. Cooking and self catering was easy, but for one person only at a time iRead moren the kitchen! There were also two local pubs serving good food, one of which was excellent. And the views from cottage windows were a delight. Hide

Our first time holidaying in Yorkshire, so we wanted somewhere in easy access of good walks & villages/towns for sightseeing & eating out. Hade Edge was the perfect location for us. The cottage is just down the road from a butcher's & farm shop as well as a pub. The property is smart, well equipped & very clean. I loved the fact there was a dressinRead moreg table & a bath, not just a shower. The owner left some milk, coffee, tea & chocs, which was lovely. Highly recommended & would definitely return. Hide
