Versatility, convenience and space for six people and three pets to spread out and enjoy time together – this beautiful bungalow really does have it all! Located beside one of the UK’s leading angling centres, it’s a property that impresses from the outset and provides the perfect base from which to discover North Yorkshire.

Set on the edge of The Oaks Lakes in Sessay, a village just 6 miles from Thirsk, this charming single-storey property is surrounded by countryside. Open fields to the front create a real sense of space which continues inside. Head through a handy vestibule where you can leave outdoor gear and you’ll be welcomed into a generously sized kitchen/diner – sleek, light and airy – where you can enjoy preparing and then sharing long, leisurely meals with your nearest and dearest.

All the essentials of home are here, including a wine cooler and a coffee machine for refreshments of your choice. Linger at the table for a board game or to plan your next day’s activities, or wander through to the adjacent lounge, which is south facing and catches the sunlight all day long.

Smart country styling and a choice of comfortable sofas make this a room for all reasons: warm toes and paws by the wood burner, watch a family favourite on the Smart TV or simply lie back with a book and recharge your batteries while the dogs stretch out at your feet.

When bedtime draws near, enjoy a soak in the bath or a swift freshen-up in the walk-in shower, before retiring to one of three beautifully decorated bedrooms. Ensuring versatility for any party make-up, there are two super-king-sized bedrooms – one with a zip-and-link bed which can be made into twins upon request – and a twin room which can be made into a super-king upon request. Adding convenience for all, the accommodation is completed by a separate cloakroom.

Pretty gardens provide plenty of opportunities for fresh air fun. Take advantage of the off-road parking – there’s space for three vehicles at the front – then relax in the generous rear patio garden where there’s a lawn, outdoor furniture and trees offering seasonal shade.

  • 3 bedrooms - 1 super-king-size, 1 super-king-size (zip and link, can be made into twins on request), 1 twin (zip and link, can be made into a super-king-size on request)
  • 1 bathroom with bath, shower and WC, 1 separate WC
  • Electric hob/oven, fridge/freezer, wine cooler, dishwasher, microwave and Krups Dulce Gusto coffee machine
  • Utility room with washing machine
  • Wood burner (basket of logs provided)
  • 2 Smart TVs
  • Rear patio garden with outdoor furniture
  • Off-street parking for 3 cars
  • Owner’s fishing ponds next door - enquire separately - will need to provide own equipment, specialist equipment required for specimen lake
  • Pub 3 miles, shop 6.5 miles, cafe and tackle shop on site
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00, unless otherwise stated in your arrival details
  • 3 dogs allowed. Dogs are charged at £20 each per full or part week
  • There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £250 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £30. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

If any of your party are keen on fishing, a visit to the fishing complex next door is a must – there are ten lakes with over 400 pegs, plus a large cafe and tackle shop.

Just 6 miles north, Thirsk offers something for everyone: a quaint marketplace, splendid Georgian buildings, a Norman church and excellent pubs, shops, restaurants, a cinema and a leisure centre. Alternatively, a scenic 18-mile drive takes you to Rievaulx Abbey (18 miles) – make a day of it with a stop en route in the pretty town of Helmsley (15 miles).

The ancient cathedral city of York is 21 miles away and finding your way around its labyrinth of streets is always fun. You’ll find a fantastic range of contemporary designer shops, traditional tea rooms, top-class restaurants and bars alongside popular attractions such as York Minster, The Shambles, and the Railway Museum. The cathedral in Ripon (11.5 miles) may be smaller than the one in York, but it’s still an awe-inspiring sight. This vibrant city has a Thursday market alongside a fine selection of shops and eateries. Extend your visit into the evening to hear the Ripon Hornblower sounding the curfew at 9pm from all four sides of the obelisk in the marketplace. A 15-minute history of the ceremony and the city follows – an experience not to be missed!

If you are partial to a flutter, Ripon Races hosts meets from April to early September. Known as 'Yorkshire's Garden Racecourse', it has a distinct atmosphere harking back to a bygone era – traditional tearooms and bandstands sit alongside the champagne bar.

More must-see sites while you are here include Ripley Castle (19 miles), Newby Hall (12 miles) and Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden (17 miles). the latter is a World Heritage Site and is deservedly one of the National Trust's most visited locations. As well as the spectacular ruins of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey, the grounds are home to an Elizabethan mansion, a medieval deer park and some of the most romantic vistas in the country.
