Surrounded by countryside and just moments from the majestic ruins of Easby Abbey, this gorgeous Grade II-listed abode is ideal for an indulgent break with friends or family.

Sleeping four across three bedrooms, it sits within a characterful courtyard of creamy-coloured stone cottages. Enter and immediately to your right there’s a charming lounge room with original sash windows and, in the feature fireplace, a wood burner-effect electric fire. A Smart TV sits above – perfect for cosy evenings with a favourite movie – and in one corner, there’s a contemporary dining suite that complements the other carefully chosen furnishings and accessories within this companionable space.

Bold wall colours accentuate the on-trend cabinets and counters in the adjacent kitchen, bringing a real home-from-home feel to your culinary endeavours. Whichever room you spend time in, there’s floorspace for two canine companions to stay close.

As night falls and bed calls, head upstairs for a choice of three bedrooms – one is a spacious king-size room, while the others each have a single bed. Assuring comfort and convenience for every guest, there’s a bathroom upstairs and an additional cloakroom on the ground floor.

You’ll have a real sense of how far from the everyday you are when you step outside and into the courtyard – the gravelled space outside your holiday home has chairs and a table so you can enjoy food and drinks alfresco.

  • 3 bedrooms - 1 king-size, 2 singles
  • 1 bathroom - shower over bath and WC, separate ground floor WC
  • Electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, washing machine
  • Smart TV
  • Small courtyard with bistro table and chairs

Stroll just a short distance along the country lane outside your cottage and you’ll arrive at Easby Abbey. Sitting beside the River Swale, it is one of Britain’s best-preserved monasteries of the Premonstratensian order. A perfect spot for a summer picnic, these romantic ruins have been depicted by several artists over the centuries, including JMW Turner.

Around 1.5 miles away, Richmond is a charming market town on the borders of Wensleydale and Swaledale. It boasts an 11th-century castle, fine Georgian architecture, a historic theatre and a large cobbled market square. Numerous eateries make this a favourite destination for foodies. Leave your car at home and walk along the river into town for a well-deserved cream tea or fine dining experience. Don’t forget to stop at the restored former railway station, which is now home to a micro-brewery and artisan bakery.

Richmond is also known as 'The Gateway to the Dales', therefore expect to see stunning scenery peppered with countless little towns and villages all around. For something completely different, visit to the brilliant Forbidden Corner – a unique labyrinth of tunnels, chambers, follies and surprises, 15 miles away near Middleham.

Less than 18 miles from your doorstep, Grade I-listed Barnard Castle and the historic market town that shares the same name is a haven for discerning shoppers and antique aficionados. The Bowes Museum here is a charming French-style chateau, built in the late 19th century and surrounded by beautiful gardens and parkland.

We enjoyed our stay. The location was good for our needs being close to Richmond and Easby Abbey. Our stay was not long enough to do many of the other sightseeing options

Character dog friendly cottage in a fabulous location only a couple of hundred metres from Easby Abbey. Brilliant if you have a dog as its only minutes before you're on open paths alongside the river to Richmond (20 mins). Everything you could need in the cottage to spend a happy, comfortable week. Bedding and towels were excellent quality.

Beautiful cottage , very cosy and great location. Only downside is although it's dog friendly there's no garden only a courtyard, which leads onto a road, nowhere you can let your dog off the lead to do there toilet business unless your out with them. Which when you first wake up is frustrating. It would be much better being dog friendly if they coRead moreuld put a gate on the opening to the courtyard, enclose it more. Hide
