Step inside the welcoming entrance hall where you can stow shoes, coats and dog leads then head through to the formal lounge and let the holiday fun begin. Exposed beams are complemented by modern must-haves, including a Smart TV and a choice of sofas for chilled-out, companionable evenings with loved ones.

The stage is set for many more convivial meet-ups in the farmhouse kitchen/diner, where your chef of the day will surely be inspired by the traditional AGA, and those who want to chat can grab a stool at the breakfast island. For a more formal meal setting, move to the dining table which has window seats with views over the garden.

To the side of the entrance hall, a handy utility room will be ideal for wiping wet paws and settling the dogs at bedtime. Two steps down is the first of the property’s five bedrooms – a double with its own seating area and a Smart TV. The downstairs shower room is close by.

When it’s time to bid goodnight, ascend the staircase to find four further bedrooms, each with its own style and all supremely comfortable and spacious. The master bedroom has a super-king-size bed plus an en-suite shower room and views across open fields. A zip-and-link super-king-size bedroom has the versatility to be made up as a twin on request, and there are two king-size rooms. A family bathroom with both a bath and a separate shower complete the convenience for those occupying these first-floor rooms.

You’ll never be short of entertainment options while enjoying the outdoor space here. Large double doors lead from both the entrance hallway and the kitchen to a choice of seating areas, furnished with tables and chairs so you can dine alfresco. Gather for drinks in the outdoor bar area, or take a book and blanket into the lawned garden, which is accessed by steps and is fully enclosed making it ideal for dogs to sniff around too.

If children and pets need to let off steam, there’s shared use of an enclosed field. And across the driveway, you all have  use of an indoor games room where the challenges include a pool table, a darts board and a table tennis table. If that’s all a little too energetic, simply chill in the seating area and watch some TV.

• There is an Accidental Damage Deposit of £500 when booking at this property, however this may be waived for £50. We’ll provide more details about this when booking your holiday.

Historic Sherburn in Elmet is less than a mile away; stock up on essentials and treats at its range of big-name and independent stores. For more retail therapy, jump on the train (the station is less than half a mile from your doorstep) and head into the metropolitan city of Leeds (16.5 miles).

A similar train ride away, York (18 miles) is a favourite amongst even the most seasoned of travellers. This ancient walled city has been the north's spiritual capital for 2,000 years and history seeps out of every cobbled street, but today the crooked old buildings house a fantastic range of contemporary designer shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.

Everywhere in York is easily reached by foot as this small but perfectly formed city houses most of its main attractions within the city walls. Finding your way around the labyrinth of warped streets is part of the fun – make sure you take in York Minster, The Shambles, the Railway Museum and Bettys tearoom while you're there.

Founded by the Romans and built from the same beautiful, local limestone that was used for York Minster, the historic brewery town of Tadcaster (6.5 miles) has lovely shops, some fine eateries and is surrounded by beautiful countryside. Walk along the River Wharfe to see the town’s listed 18th-century bridge, or visit 15th-century St Mary’s Church where the magnificent stained-glass window, designed by William Morris and Co, is believed to hold two panels created by the designer himself.

Just 4 miles from your holiday home and en route to Tadcaster, you’ll find the famous Towton Battlefield, the site of a major battle during the War of the Roses, often described as the largest and bloodiest battle ever fought on English soil.
