When you need to relax and recharge amidst beautiful scenery, this cute cottage for six offers tranquil views over the hills, fields and woodland of the delightful Holme Valley. It’s also less than half a mile from Holmfirth’s selection of shops, pubs and places to eat, making it a great choice for a family or group of friends – and you can bring your canine companions too.

After a day out walking or exploring the area, hang your coats just inside the front door, kick your shoes off and put the kettle on for a cup of Yorkshire tea. The bright kitchen/diner is a welcoming place to be, whether you’re cooking a delicious supper, playing a board game or simply catching up on all your adventures. When you want to get cosy for the evening, the lounge has a corner sofa on which to snuggle and a Smart TV which offers all kinds of viewing options. To help research your next day’s activities, you’ll find a selection of maps and books in the bureau.

When bedtime beckons, all three bedrooms are on the first floor (taller people: do bear in mind that the staircase ceiling is rather low). With gorgeous wallpaper and a lovely combination of old and new furniture, they all have heaps of comfort and charm. Two beautifully decorated doubles are complemented by a pretty twin room that can be converted to a king-size on request. They share a family bathroom with a shower over the bath.

There’s outside space both front and back. In the front, a pebbled patio where you can enjoy a morning coffee while enjoying the rural surroundings; in the back, a raised seating area with a bench – a great place for setting up with a book while spotting sheep on the hills. For the cyclists among you, an outhouse is available for locking up your bikes.

Wander down to the picturesque small town of Holmfirth, located within the impressive scenery of the Holme Valley, and at the confluence of the rivers Holme and Ribble. The town is famous as the location for the long-running (and much-loved) TV series Last of the Summer Wine – and has that archetypal Yorkshire village feel, with the charm of bygone years. Choose from a range of cafes, restaurants and pubs for a night out in town, or listen to some live music at the Picturedrome, then catch a cab back up the hill to get home speedily.

Spend a morning or afternoon touring the town’s very own vineyard, just 2.5 miles away, where you can also dine in the restaurant and relish its breathtaking panoramic views of the valley.

If you love walking or cycling, the edge of the Peak District is just 3.5 miles away. Explore its spectacular variety of scenery that includes everything from steep-sided limestone dales to dramatic high moorlands, following established walking trails, open-access land or off-road cycle tracks.

Culture vultures will definitely want to take a day trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, 11.5 miles away. Set in the 500-acre Bretton Hall estate, it’s the leading international centre for modern and contemporary sculpture – and a great day out. For a restorative wander through gardens and parkland, head to the National Trust’s Wentworth Castle, 15 miles away, making sure to pack a picnic to enjoy by the Medieval-style turrets of Stainborough Castle.

The buzzy town of Huddersfield, meanwhile, is only 6.5 miles from the cottage, and here, you can indulge your shopping fantasies with a range of local and national retailers, try out the different dining options and explore museums, galleries and parks.

A lovely cottage, which has been well-thought out and well-appointed. The very nice owners Donna and Mark were extremely helpful and left us a really lovely welcome hamper. Holmfirth is a lovely place with wonderful walking within easy striking distance.

Fabulous property, lovely owners who had thought of almost everything. Lovely Xmas decs and generous hamper. Unfortunately we could not stay again as we needed an enclosed back garden , this property has shared back area not private. I spent the first half hour looking for the back door. This just needs to be made clearer in specification of properRead morety on holiday cottages. Again need for this amplified by weather so our small terriers bit petrified of the front area. Hide
