Boasting views of the River Use, this countryside cottage is an idyllic base for families looking for adventure with their dogs in tow. Less than half a mile away is Thoronborough Henges where wonderful walking trails can be found surrounding the cluster of Neolithic monuments otherwise known as ‘the Stonehenge of the North’. After a day of exploring, the garden room is a perfect spot to kick back and relax looking out over the rural views, or when the sun is shining, head right out into the garden to enjoy the fresh air!

At the heart of the home is the open-plan lounge/diner where comfortable sofas and a four-seater table create a versatile space for the family to come together. The charming wood burner adds to the ambience and creates a cosy atmosphere in the winter months whilst a crafting nook in one corner is a great place for reading and writing in peace.

Next door, the kitchen is compact yet offers everything you’ll need to create delicious meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner in the modern set-up. Completing the ground floor is the delightful garden room, ensuring you can make the most of the picturesque scenery come rain or shine.

Upstairs, you’ll find a modern shower room with a natural colour palette. In addition, there are two bedrooms decorated in calming neutral tones, one featuring a king-size bed and the other a super-king-size zip-and-link.

Outside, the south-facing garden has areas of lawn and patio, as well as a selection of outdoor games for entertainment all through the year.

In the area surrounding your holiday home, you’ll find a wealth of things to do, with many of them centred around the incredible wildlife found in the local area. Nosterfield Nature Reserve (2 miles) is a beautiful spot for a gentle stroll to see what creatures inhabit this protected area on a balmy day. Slightly further afield at 6 miles away is Thorp Perrow Arboretum and Bird of Prey Mammal Centre, a fascinating place for all the family with rare trees and shrubs and a Victorian arboretum alongside an eclectic array of animals. Spend a day wandering through the tranquil 45-acre Himalayan Garden and Sculpture Park (8 miles) making memories with your loved ones at the award-winning site which is home to 85 striking sculptures.

The vibrant cathedral city of Ripon (7 miles) boasts a Thursday market, numerous coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and a nice collection of independent shops to explore. The cathedral is smaller than its close neighbour, York Minster, but is still an awe-inspiring sight. In addition, every night for at least 450 years the Ripon Hornblower has sounded the curfew at 9 pm from all four sides of the obelisk in the marketplace, come rain or shine, followed by a 15-minute history of the ceremony and the city – an experience not to be missed! If you are partial to a flutter, Ripon Race Ground has around 15 meets from April to early September. Known as 'Yorkshire's Garden Racecourse' it has a distinct atmosphere harking back to a bygone era – traditional tearooms and bandstands sit alongside the champagne bar.

This area of Yorkshire has enough historic sites to keep you busy for a week with Ripley Castle (15.5 miles), Newby Hall (15 miles) and Norton Conyers (4 miles) all close by. Visit lovely Fountains Abbey and the gorgeous Studley Royal Water Garden, 10 miles away – this World Heritage site is deservedly one of the National Trust's most visited locations. As well as the spectacular ruins of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey, the grounds are home to an Elizabethan Mansion, a mediaeval deer park and some of the most romantic vistas in the country.

Harrogate (20 miles) is an absolute must-visit if you're staying here. Encircled by its famous Stray, or 200 acres, of horseshoe-shaped grassland, the Victorian spa town of Harrogate has a bright and breezy open-air feel and is characterised by its impressive floral displays. And as you would expect of such a bustling upbeat town, Harrogate boasts over 300 bars and restaurants together with all the shops, cinemas, parks and gardens you could ever wish for.

The cottage was so comfortable, warm, well equipped and very clean. Home from home! We had a lovely week. Ripon is easily accessible. Walking in the area is easy as it is quite flat. Do visit the Workhouse Museum in Ripon and Ripon Walled garden.
