Comfort and relaxation will envelop you at this handsomely decorated cottage. Set in the lovely village of Borrowby, it’s close to a huge variety of things to see and do, from adventures in the great outdoors to historic and cultural sites. With a fabulous garden that’s perfect for chilling out, and plenty of space indoors for spending time with your loved ones, this is a wonderful getaway for families or small groups of friends, plus your canine companions.

Postcard-pretty outside, this terraced home is equally attractive inside, with a home-from-home atmosphere that will make you feel truly welcome. The kitchen combines a farmhouse feel with modern amenities, including eye-level, integrated ovens, and looks out over the lovely garden. Lay the table in the conservatory, which has direct access outside, and enjoy all kinds of meals from informal suppers to special celebrations.

When you want to put your feet up, gather in the lounge where there’s reclining leather seating and you can switch on the coal-effect electric fire for a cosy atmosphere. This room has a Smart TV for streaming your favourite shows, and there’s also a separate snug with a sofa for anyone who wants some quiet time with a good book.

The three bright bedrooms, all on the first floor, have been elegantly decorated with beautifully co-ordinated colours. They share a well-designed family shower room with a corner shower.

Your outside space includes a garden where children and pets can safely play, a patio with outdoor furniture, and a covered ‘chill zone’. Pour a drink, throw something on the BBQ and enjoy the fresh air while you make the most of your special Yorkshire holiday.

Within 100 metres of your cottage you’ll find a welcoming 17th-century pub with a great atmosphere – a lovely venue for a quiet evening with a glass of something delicious. Just 5.5 miles away, the market town of Thirsk will entice you with its independent shops and indulgent places to eat, as well as a racecourse, golf club, museum and sculpture garden. It’s also home to The World of James Herriot, the famous vet’s fully restored 1940s home and surgery.

The attractive town of Bedale (14.5 miles) is a great place to have a coffee and then make your way around the town's antique shops and independent boutiques. Foodies will be delighted by the range of local produce, including beers and cheeses on offer.

For an excellent day trip, the vibrant cathedral city of Ripon (16 miles) boasts a Thursday market, numerous coffee shops, pubs, restaurants and a nice collection of independent shops to explore. The cathedral is smaller than its close neighbour, York Minster, but is still an awe-inspiring sight. In addition, every night for at least 450 years, the Ripon Hornblower has sounded the curfew at 9pm from all four sides of the obelisk in the market place, come rain or shine, followed by a 15-minute history of the ceremony and the city – an experience not to be missed! If you are partial to a flutter, Ripon Race Ground has around 15 meets from April to early September. Known as 'Yorkshire's Garden Racecourse', it has a distinct atmosphere harking back to a bygone era – traditional tearooms and bandstands sit alongside the champagne bar.

This area of Yorkshire has enough historical sites to keep you busy for a week with Ripley Castle, Newby Hall and Norton Conyers all less than 25 miles away. Visit lovely Fountains Abbey and the gorgeous Studley Royal Water Garden, 21 miles away – this World Heritage Site is deservedly one of the National Trust's most visited locations. As well as the spectacular ruins of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey, the grounds are home to an Elizabethan mansion, a medieval deer park and some of the most romantic vistas in the country.

Harrogate (27.5 miles) is an absolute must-visit if you're staying here. Encircled by its famous Stray, or 200 acres of horseshoe-shaped grassland, the Victorian spa town of Harrogate has a bright and breezy open-air feel and is characterised by its impressive floral displays. And as you would expect of such a bustling upbeat town, Harrogate boasts over 300 bars and restaurants together with all the shops, cinemas, parks and gardens you could ever wish for.

Closer to home, the vibrant little village of Osmotherley (just 7 miles), on the western side of the North York Moors, is well-known as a starting point for walkers and cyclists. This gorgeous little place is real picture-postcard stuff. It also offers excellent facilities including a cafe, village stores and a fish and chip shop. If you're a bit of a foodie, this part of Yorkshire is packed with fantastic gastropubs, restaurants and delis.

Beautiful cottage and village. Spotlessly clean and lovely decoration. We managed to enjoy our break as a family of 4 adults 2 children and 2 small dogs. Welcome packs for humans and dogs were lovely. Private garden beyond the walkway at the back of the property was brilliant, very private and beautifully looked after. We definately hope to be backRead more. Pup up the road very welcoming and the village is really pretty. Close to thirsk and Northallerton for shopping. Great find. Hide
