Whilst staying in the area, you could make a visit to Otley (4 miles) to peruse the selection of lovely local shops and eateries for a leisurely day out. Otley Golf Club is also in the area if you fancy an 18-hole course in a beautiful location before refuelling in the clubhouse at the end of the day. For majestic walks, head to Lindley Wood Reservoir (5 miles) and you’ll be enchanted by the tree canopy and array of wildlife inhabiting the area.

The grand Victorian spa town of Harrogate (7 miles) is regularly listed as the best place to live in the UK. The truly gorgeous Yorkshire town combines traditional elegance with contemporary style effortlessly. And the Duchy suburb is well known as being one of the most desirable postcodes in town.

Best known for its antiques and fine art, Harrogate has antique dealers and galleries around every corner, particularly around the Montpellier Quarter. If buying old paintings and furniture isn't your bag, there are a host of other reasons to part with your cash in Harrogate. High fashion outlets nestle alongside lavish interior boutiques, punctuated with enough fine restaurants and cafes to keep you fuelled for weeks.

A visit to Bettys Tea Rooms is a must and, if you have time, we highly recommend a session at the famous Turkish Baths. Rejuvenate spirit and soul after a day on the town. If you're travelling with children, Harrogate is famous for its outdoor space with lots of parkland and greenery everywhere. The RHS gardens at Harlow Carr are also a fantastic option for families.

Harrogate is also very close to the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, so it makes the perfect base from which to explore the glorious Yorkshire landscape and its many stunning natural sights. The breathtaking Nidderdale is 26 miles northwest, and you will be driving through some of the most dramatic Dales scenery. We highly recommend a day trip to gorgeous Ilkley (11 miles) combined with a visit to Bolton Abbey, 19 miles away.

York is within easy reach (27 miles) and a day trip to this beautiful mediaeval city is well worth it.

This cottage is excellent in every way . The owner is cheerful and helpful. The location is good for visiting many towns and attractions. The nearby rail station at Weeton (part of Leeds to York line is really useful.

The cottage was great, we didnt want for anything, it was well set out and always warm. The bedroom was well laid out and had an armchair in too which was very useful as my husband suffers from heart failure and couldnt sleep laying down in bed so we utilised the chair as a bed. Beautiful views. Well equipped. Comfy bed. Shower. Tranquil setting, although quite near a busy road, but that doesn't take anything away from property.
