The beautiful market town of Beverley is one of Yorkshire’s best-kept secrets with its stunning 13th-century Beverley Minster often regarded as one of Europe’s finest Gothic churches. Marvel at the town’s medieval architecture before indulging in a spot of shopping around its lively cobbled squares. Finish off with a drink in one of the traditional Yorkshire pubs that remain almost untouched by time, as charming as they are cosy.

Beyond the town, you’ll get to know the breathtakingly beautiful and unspoilt Yorkshire Wolds very well by exploring the range of low rolling hills rising from the River Humber and sweeping along to the stunning cliffs at Flamborough Head. The gentle nature of this surrounding countryside makes it an excellent spot for walking, cycling and a scenic picnic.

The Wolds are also home to many historical homes, religious sites, and one of Yorkshire's largest lavender gardens. There are heaps of fantastic attractions nearby (indoor and out) including the amazing marine life at The Deep in Hull (19.5 miles) and over 120 stalls at the Beverley Market (14.5 miles) held every Saturday. The Yorkshire Coast and North York Moors, as well as the beautiful, historic city of York (28 miles) make for great days out.

Bywater was an ideal location for us because we were able to ride our bicycles, jump on a train to visit places of interest, drive easily to different locations and walk as much as we liked, due to the flat land and nearby canal. A restful and relaxing stay - the setting overlooking the lake was super, and everything was provided for, inside and out. We loved sitting on the covered veranda watching the rain in the lake, and made good use of the hot tub.

Fantastic hosts who make an effort to make you feel welcome, however this is not a five star cottage and it is definitely style over substance. The noise from the very close by M62 would cause a problem in summer months. There were dirty cutlery and plates in the kitchen, which the hosts should have checked prior to our arrival. The bed is very firRead morem, which for us caused backache. It is a beautiful outlook across the lake and the wildlife was stunning, but we would not return. Hide
