Property code: 92978

A thoughtful renovation has transformed this former agricultural building into an impressive rural escape, perfect for couples or small families. Set on a working farm (spot the peacocks and emus!) in an area bordering the wonderful Peak District, this is a beautifully designed holiday destination that blends style and functionality with great flair.

Head straight up the stairs to your first-floor apartment, where you’ll find a fabulous open-plan living space with a Juliet balcony overlooking the farm below. This is such a welcoming spot in which to hang out, whether you’re observing farm life (with animals including donkeys, emus, sheep and peacocks roaming around), streaming a show on the Smart TV or simply relaxing in the company of your loved ones.

The whole room, from its funky flooring to its sophisticated furnishings, exudes style, but it's functional too, with comfortable seating and a kitchen area that contains everything you’ll need to create delicious holiday meals. There’s a dining table for four by the window, and a breakfast bar for two – ideal for a morning cuppa.

The two appealing bedrooms are decorated in pale tones for a tranquil ambience. Both have double beds (one has one side of the bed against a wall) and ample storage. These rooms share a superb shower room.

For a drink or a meal in the fresh air, head out onto your private patio, where there’s a table and chairs for you to enjoy al fresco dining in the sunshine, perhaps lingering until the stars come out and you head inside to your comfortable beds.

The rural hamlet of Midhopestones offers plentiful walks nearby and is only 2 miles from Langsett Reservoir, where routes weave through majestic woodlands and offer stunning vistas across the water. Cyclists and horse riders can explore the bridleways, while bird watchers may spot treecreepers, owls and woodpeckers.

This is the gateway to the Peak District National Park and, for those who love getting active in the great outdoors, you’ll find not only spectacular scenery and fascinating wildlife but also a range of exciting things to do, from adrenaline sports to bike hire and guided walks. There are also a variety of charming towns and villages within easy reach of your cottage, including Hathersage, 15.5 miles, Castleton, 18 miles, and Bakewell, 25.5 miles.

Bakewell is the biggest town in the Peak District National Park, famous for its unique ‘pudding’ – don’t miss trying some while you’re there. There’s much more to the town than just a delicious desert, however. Wander its quaint streets full of mellow stone buildings and cute courtyards, and enjoy the fabulous variety of high-quality shops, artisan food producers and great places to eat. Stroll by the river, crossing the five-arched bridge to feed the ducks, or take a tour of the local brewery and try some craft beers.

History lovers won’t want to miss a visit to 16th-century Chatsworth House, just 4.5 miles outside Bakewell, home to art, furniture and other treasures, and set in glorious gardens and parkland. The medieval manor Haddon Hall is only 2 miles from Bakewell, famous as a location for films including The Princess Bride and Jane Eyre.

An absolute gem. A wonderful hideaway on a working farm with incredible walks nearby. We were a group of two couples who came to catch up and Hike and the Hayloft was ideal for catching up in the evenings over wine and exploring the peak district during the day. I would highly recommend to anyone. An additional treat was all the cute lambs, the alpRead moreacas, friendly donkeys and rheas! Hide

The Hayloft is tastefully decorated with a nice view out to the animals along the drive and to the hill beyond. Midhopestone is ideally located for getting into the Derwent Valley and the High Peak District in general, and I recommend stopping at the Strines Inn on the way back (the beer garden has an amazing view). One could easily spend days justRead more wandering the footpaths in the area too. Hide
