With its lovely period features and quaint nautical-themed décor, this idyllic cottage in the heart of Whitby is overflowing with charm and character. It’s the ideal accommodation option for small families or groups of friends who want to live the Whitby experience to the full. Take long strolls along the beach (500 metres), explore the winding cobbled streets and spend evenings dining on delicious local seafood in one of the local pubs. The River Esk flows through the heart of the town and you can spend many happy hours getting lost in the maze of charming streets and historic yards that sit on either side of it. The ruins of Whitby Abbey (0.5 miles) – which are said to have inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula - dominate the clifftop and can be reached by climbing the 199 steps from the old town. The views from the top are sublime. Alternatively, head down to the historic harbour (0.5 miles) to see where Captain James Cook worked as an apprentice before he set sail to discover Australia. The harbour is a hive of activity and you can enjoy early mornings watching the fishing boats come ashore before getting the first choice of their catch for your dinner. Further afield, head down the coast to Robin Hood’s Bay (5.5 miles) and learn all about the secret life of 18th-century smugglers on the Robin Hood’s Bay Smugglers’ Trail.
Step inside this lovely cottage from the utterly charming Hydings Yard and you’ll find an irresistibly cosy lounge/diner with feature beams to the ceiling. Take a moment to make yourself at home beside the wood burner-effect electric fire before descending five steps down to the separate kitchen to cook up a feast for your loved ones. You’ll find everything you need to let your culinary skills shine in the fresh and bright kitchen, as well as in the handy utility cupboard that’s just off the lounge. Upstairs you’ll find two lovely bedrooms – one double and (five steps down from the landing) a twin. A pleasant family bathroom completes the first-floor layout.
Outside you’ll find a pretty patio area with table and chairs – so pour yourself a glass of wine and relax until the stars come out.
