This delightful two-storey, stone-built cottage, sits on a hill overlooking the Yorkshire coast. It’s perfect for a family getaway or couple’s retreat, however please be aware that due to its terrace gardens and original staircase it is not suitable for those guests with limited mobility. Situated in a quiet location near the seaside village of Ravenscar (1.5 miles), there are a handful of local shops, restaurants and cafes. There are many National Trust sites nearby; the Yorkshire coast at Skipsea (1 mile) offers historical remains, wildlife and coastal walking trails. Whitby is 15 miles away; here you can stroll along the golden sandy beach with a takeaway fish and chips, see the compelling Whitby Abbey ruins, and climb the famous 199 steps.
From the second you step through the front door of this cottage, you’ll be captivated by its charm and character. Inside the lounge, the traditional wooden beams, floor, doors and furnishings make this space a delightful place to wind down on the three love seats sofas while the fire is lit. There is also an exposed brick chimney breast and twisting, floating stairs which take you up to the first floor. Stepping down into the modern farmhouse-style kitchen, you’ll see that there is plenty of space on the wooden surfaces for preparing a special, homecooked meal. There’s a smart TV in this room to keep you entertained while you’re cooking or enjoying breakfast. The garden is accessible via a door in the kitchen, too. Heading back into the living room, follow the stairs up to the first floor and you’ll find two bedrooms and a bathroom. The master room boasts a comfortable king sized bed and a window seat with sea views. It’s an idyllic place for relaxing and getting stuck into a good book with a cup of coffee. If you’ve got children, the second room has bunk beds for them to sleep in. Inside the monochrome bathroom, which is decorated with pretty tiles, there is an opulent roll-top bath for sinking into.
As you walk out into the tiered garden, you’ll be greeted by steps up to gravelled seating areas where you can dine alfresco, and there are some grassy levels too. There are flower beds and shrubs at the top of the garden and astonishing sea views. There’s also a swing seat on a decked area which you can sit on while gazing out at the green fields and striking coastline.
