Impressive 200-year-old cottage that makes the perfect base for a couple or small family to explore idyllic Whitby, complete with a suntrap patio for summer evenings or a cosy lounge fire for the colder months. Whitby is a true tourist hot spot on the stunning Yorkshire coast, complete with freshly caught seafood eateries, pretty beaches and coastal walking routes, all waiting to be explored. Discover the area’s Dracula-themed history with a walking tour of the town (0.5 miles) or embark on a boat trip from the harbour (1 mile) to spot whales basking in the waters. The town is situated on the brink of the North York Moors National Park, complete with an abundance of walking routes accessible via a short car journey. Experience an easy-going walk along the old Rosedale Mineral Railway (16.5 miles) or challenge yourselves with a picturesque route all the way to Grosmont (7 miles).

As this property is situated in an historic part of Whitby, you must ascend 25 stairs from street level to the front door of this characterful cottage. Once inside, you’re immediately greeted by a welcoming open-plan living space with lounge, kitchen and diner. Fully fitted with bespoke worktops, a Belfast sink and all the necessary appliances, the kitchen offers a fantastic space for locally sourced produce to be turned into tasty dinners. A drop-leaf dining table with three chairs makes the most of this compact living space and can be tucked away when not in use. The lounge features soft seating solutions to curl up on, along with a wood burner-style gas fire and Smart TV/DVD for those inviting nights in. A steep staircase that’s traditional in properties as old as this leads up to two bedrooms. The first is a handsome double bedroom with built-in wardrobe providing excellent storage space. The second bedroom has been beautifully decorated with a child in mind, complete with a single wrought iron bed. Completing the accommodation is a contemporary family shower room with shower cubicle and WC.

Head down a few steps to find a pretty shared patio space with a bench, ideal for basking in the morning sun with your first coffee of the day.  There is also a shared lawned area and planted borders.  The lawned area is very steep and not suitable for playing on. Free on-street parking is available close on Church Street and The Ropery. This is on a first-come, first-served basis.

If anywhere could be described as a home-from-home this is it from the boxes of tissues in every room to the hospitality box to the fresh flowers. Be warned though to note that there is no freezer or washing machine, to be forewarned is to be forearmed! For a week's stay, I didn't miss a washing machine and I really didn't miss a freezer either. CaRead morer parking could be an issue but we arrived late and parked in nearby car park overnight and left before 9am so there was no charge. I promptly found a parking place on Church Street - which we didn't need to leave on most days because there's plenty to see and do in Whitby and the trains and buses will take you to some lovely locations. We had a wonderful stay in the cottage - it looked just like the photos and felt just as cosy. Everything was spotlessly clean, well equipped and super comfortable. The location was perfect too, with great pubs just a short walk away. A solid 10 out of 10 from us. We'd love to stay here again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it! Felt at home straight away, lovely cottage, so nice to have tea, coffee and other treats to welcome us on arrival too. Great location, cottage tucked away up a flight of steps, so felt cosy and was quiet even though so near to the town, lovely to walk back alongside the harbour on an evening. Would definitely stay here again.

Pear Tree Cottage is fantastic and everything is to a very high standard and there is great attention to details. A real home from home and a very comfortable and welcoming feel. The welcome pack was lovely and very much appreciated and we especially enjoyed the tea biscuits, and had to go and buy some to take home. There is also a shared seating aRead morerea with table and chairs to sit out and enjoy. Would definitely recommend and we would stay there again if visiting Whitby. Hide
