The Shippon is a clean, cosy, characterful, well-equipped cottage with a parking space and a small outdoor area in a beautiful little village with a lovely cafe/deli, small shop, weekly fish & chip van, several pubs and a bus service. We had a brilliant holiday in The Shippon, but this was made most special by the landscape of Wensleydale and Swaledale. Although we are in our late 70s, we did several long walks (5 miles x 3) and lots of other exploring as well - favourites - walking up the Swale in Muker meadows, driving over the moors to Swaledale and stopping at the top for a Read morepicnic lunch! We are not bird experts, but were thrilled with how many moorland birds we saw on those two drives over to Swaledale. We loved all the spring wild flowers too - so many primrose banks and the first openings of the bluebell woods. Other highlights - Aysgarth Falls, Asghill force, Castle Bolton, cheese demonstration in Hawes. Enjoyed dinner out at The Kings Arms, AAskrigg ad Wensleydale Heifer in West Witton. Hide

This cottage was presented to a very high standard and we were immediately very comfortable. The location was ideal and quietly located for the delightful village and for cycling aroung the Yorkshire Dales. Also the nice welcoming pack including refreshments and milk was most appreciated. The owners provided ample fuel for the woodburner which happRead moreily wasn't required! The shed was just right for bicycle storage. We definitely plan to return when we can. Hide

We love Askrigg and visit regularly to meet our friends who live here. Enjoyed staying in the Shippon which suited all our needs. Bolton Castle is well worth a visit and the lovely walks and views are worth the hard climbs.

Lots of walks in the area - Mill Gil, Addlebrough, Cat Leap Falls. Visited Bolton Castle. Still good bird watching despite being late in the season - saw Kestrel, Buzzard, Gold Crest, Red Grouse, and meadow pipits were our highlights. The stars were amazing on a clear night too!
