This Edwardian four-bedroom terraced townhouse, bursting with character has a world-famous heritage site within touching distance. A perfect family getaway. Whitby, less than 0.5 miles away, known for its connections to Bram Stoker’s Dracula, has embraced its association with Gothic culture, mirrored in the town’s cobbled streets and unique shops. Discover superb views of the headland by climbing the famous 199 Steps. Next to the West Pier, also less than 0.5 miles, enjoy traditional seaside amusement arcades, as well as crazy golf, bingo, mini ten-pin bowling, a shooting gallery, and a soft play centre perfect for younger children. The harbour is also a great spot for crabbing. Overlooking the town centre, explore an oracle of Gothic culture in the ruins of 13th-century Whitby Abbey, and enjoy spectacular sea views of the harbour and beyond.

Through the hall adorned with plenty of handy coat hooks for every guest, you’re met with a spacious lounge, which mixes modern, comfortable sofas and a Smart TV, with a Victorian-style ornamental fireplace and wooden shutters over the windows. One step up leads you into the chic kitchen/diner, cleverly partitioned from one another via part of an internal wall so the kitchen table for eight, with a sleek chandelier, feels like its own intimate socialising and dining space. The kitchen is well-equipped with all modern appliances and features marble-style countertops. You’re met firstly with a half landing upstairs which features the first bathroom with a thermostatic shower over the bath and a separate WC room. On the first floor, you’ll find two king-size bedrooms benefiting from solid wooden furniture and original cast iron ornamental fireplaces. You’ll also find another bathroom on this level, boasting a modern walk-in shower and a low-level WC. The final floor features a spacious landing with a wardrobe, a twin bedroom with another beautiful cast iron ornamental fireplace, and a final bedroom featuring a king-size zip-and-link bed for ultimate versatility. A final bathroom with shower cubicle and WC comprises the final floor of this spacious townhouse.

You’ll find a small yard to the rear of the property, enclosed for privacy by a high wall.

Second time staying here. Spacious, comfortable, warm house in a good location. There was space for our three cars on the road outside which is always a bonus in Whitby.

A warm and welcoming house. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, fabulous location and a well equipped house. Parking a bit problematic but was eventually resolved. Would definitely stay again.

The property is a great property at the heart of Whitby, but the parking at the arrival time was impossible as it is permit parking and all spaces nearby were taken at the time of arrival. However, we were able to park opposite the property the following morning and did not move the car until we left. The cleaners do need to be sacked though, the pRead moreroperty was covered in dirt and dust. My wife sent me out for cloths and cleaning spray to clean the surfaces, as she didn't want to make a fuss. I vacuumed the whole property and was very surprised to find it difficult for it to pick up anything and I had no need to empty the collector over the three floors, we then went out. The following morning, I serviced the hoover, removing a wigs worth of hair from the roller, a small duvet of dust, dirt and dander from the filter area and cleaned the completely clogged filter sponge. The hoover was now able to pick up and the two collection compartments were filled with dirt, dust and dander from each room carpet, needing to be emptied 6 or 7 times over the whole property carpets and skirting boards. As my wife didn't want to make a fuss with having an autistic daughter, but instead just address the problem ourselves, I spent a few hours solving the filthy, dusty carpets. I did sneak out to inform the office around the corner about the situation and was told they would talk to the cleaning team and I was given a complaint link to raise a complaint on. Some of the white bath towels provided were also stained. There were several grotty looking frying pans in the kitchen cupboards that also need to be thrown out. I would recommend this property if the cleaning was addressed. Hide

Ellingham House is ideal for a family of 8. We were all very comfortable in this well furnished house, situated centrally and very close to useful shops , i.e. Poundland ! This turned out to be a great base for all our interests and activities.

Stayed at Ellingham House over Easter weekend. Pros - location for visiting Whitby is really good (maybe 5 mins walk to the river) and property generally a good size/well equipped (although showing some signs of wear and tear). Cons - this may be churlish but property is "just a house", no "wow factor" such as a great view or a really special room Read moreto be in. Ellingham works much better as a base than a destination. Also, I will knock a star off for parking. Not the property's fault but the streets are very tight. When I arrived on Good Friday (admittedly a very busy weekend) I could not get parked and had to leave car miles away from house. If I was arriving in a big group/with many cars I would think twice because I wouldn't guarantee getting >1 car parked nearby. Hide
