This spacious four-bedroom Victorian farmhouse dating back to the 1800s, features beautiful period appeal, with a renowned heritage site on the doorstep. It is an ideal spot for a family or group getaway. In the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, Hawes is less than 0.5 miles away, a peaceful market village of stone buildings and independent shops linked by quaint cobbled streets. Explore the coniferous woodland to find red squirrels in their natural habitat at Snaizeholme Red Squirrel Trail, 3 miles away. You may spot roe deer along with a variety of woodland birds along the journey. Experience one of the country’s highest unbroken waterfalls, Hardraw Force (2 miles), set within 15 acres of woodland, with water rushing over a 30-metre limestone overhang.

One stone step up to the entrance welcomes you into the hallway with boot storage, leading one step down into a cosy snug, comprising a comfortable leather sofa, whimsical Highland cow footstool and Smart TV on period stone flooring, perfectly balancing the old and new. Further into the property, you’re met with a grand bar with an impressive marble top, equipped with utensils and glassware. The stone floor leads you through into the spacious kitchen featuring everything you could need, with an electric fire housed inside an exposed brick fireplace, a central dining table for seven, and unique bench-style seating. The utility room boasts even more appliances. Back through the property, you’ll find the period living/dining area, cleverly partitioned from one another by two reclining leather chairs. A multifuel stove with exposed brick surround sets the period aesthetic of this space, carrying through to the dining space with a large walnut wooden dining table and mix of historical chairs, wrapped by a beautiful, exposed beamed ceiling. One step up takes you into a handy study adorned with wooden panelled walls and a large workstation with a laser printer. You’ll also find a cloakroom with WC on this level. Upstairs, each bedroom exudes character and charm, with the spacious super-king-size master benefiting from a Smart TV, coffered wooden ceiling and leather recliner chairs. This room also features a smart en-suite shower room. Two more double bedrooms, each with their own antique wrought-iron bedsteads and fitted wardrobes, also benefit from an en-suite shower room each. Views over the Dales can be appreciated in the single bedroom, with a feature exposed stone wall, antique brass bedstead and an en-suite bathroom.

The patio garden wraps around the rear of the property, with a mature, landscaped hedge enclosing the area for privacy. More green foliage nestled in planters is dotted around the space, with patio chairs creating the perfect space for a BBQ or dining alfresco. The front of the property also boasts another patio area with stone seating to appreciate the impressive countryside views.

We really enjoyed our stay at Steppe Haugh. The property is quirky and full of character- Ive never seen so many steps and odd stairs! Every bedroom has a lovely en-suite and the beds were comfortable as was the lounge. I was especially taken with The Dales Countryside Museum and we spent a very interesting afternoon there. Hide

Although the weather was appalling during our week at Steppe Haugh, we had a wonderful time, which was helped by the beautiful cottage. It is incredibly comfy and relaxing. It was great to have an en suite in each room, as we had four teenagers and three grown up with us. This beautiful, quirky home was a pleasure to spend time in. It genuinely felt like home only with more kitchen utensils! We had everything we could possibly ask for. We thoroughly enjoyed our short break and would highly recommend. We definitely hope to return.
