This attractive three-storey stone cottage occupies an enviable location on the seafront at Sandsend, making it a great base for a family or group of friends to explore the Yorkshire coast and North York Moors. The quiet and pretty town of Sandsend offers a peaceful alternative to nearby Whitby. There’s a lovely beach for relaxing, rock pooling and fossil hunting, and the town has a reputation for fine food with several pubs and restaurants. Head to the popular resort of Whitby (3 miles) via car, bus or stroll along the sandy beach to climb the 199 steps to St Mary’s Church and Whitby Abbey, visit the Dracula Experience, or explore the town’s quirky cafes and tearooms. The region is fantastic for birdwatchers and hikers too, with the North York Moors National Park on your doorstep and the Cleveland Way hiking route passing through town.
This is an elegant stone cottage, arranged over three floors, with plenty of cosy spots to relax and unwind. Enter through the front porch to the small hallway, which has room to hang coats and store beach equipment and sandy shoes, and go into the cosy lounge. Here you can snuggle on comfortable sofas to watch TV or gaze out to sea – and warm your toes next to the wood burner on chilly days. The kitchen/diner is well equipped for preparing and serving food, and there’s a breakfast bar where up to six people can gather to eat. The downstairs is completed by a conservatory with another TV, and a family bathroom. Stairs lead up to the first floor where there is a double bedroom with a balcony and a snug with comfortable chairs and views out to sea – perfect for teenagers or if you just fancy a little peace and quiet. There are a further two bedrooms, one double, one twin spread over the first and second floors.
Outside, there’s a lawned garden to the front with chairs on a raised patio looking out to sea. To the rear of the property, there is raised decking that captures the sun all day long, with a table and chairs for six people – ideal for enjoying a meal or drinks alfresco.
