Enjoy a peaceful retreat with breathtaking views and plenty of country charm and a lovely garden to relax in. Foodies will love the local markets and there are plenty of walks on your doorstep. This lovely stone barn has a rural setting in Swaledale, where the protected wildflower meadows burst into colour in May and June and have rich autumn hues from September onwards. There are plenty of good walking or cycling routes in the area or head to Reeth, 6 miles away, for a Friday market with a good selection of local produce, and the Dales Bike Centre for delicious lunches and cakes. You can watch the famous cheese being made at Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes, 11 miles away, and take part in a tasting afterwards. While you’re here, don’t miss the National Park Centre and Dales Countryside Museum, which tells the fascinating story of the Yorkshire Dales and the people who have lived and worked here for thousands of years.

Enter through the ground floor entrance and step into the kitchen, which has a real cottage feel with pretty pine furniture, stone flagged floors and vintage wall decorations, and water sourced from a private spring. A stable door leads out from here into the garden. A cheerful bedroom on this floor has twin beds and a family bathroom features a shower over the bath and underfloor heating. A staircase from the kitchen leads to the first floor, where you’ll find the living room, complete with wood burner and lovely views. There are books, games and DVDs to keep all ages amused as well as plenty of maps and local information. The bedroom on this level has a pretty king-size sleigh bed and a door with steps down to the garden as well as an en-suite shower room with underfloor heating.

The property is surrounded by two acres of private fields with a bench garden table and chairs immediately outside. There are also river views.

We had a lovely week here, the area is stunning with great walks nearby. We found the upside down aspect of the cottage really cute and liked the kitchen and the fact that it still looked a bit like the original barn. Especially important, the bed is really comfy!

Great location in the Dales. A really nice home for a wonderful holiday. Lovely countryside, excellent pubs nearby, wonderful walks possible round Gunnersude, Muker and Reeth. Nice people in the neighbourhood. The Swaledale is fascinating.

We were delighted with Throstle Nest Barn its a lovely property in a very special place and beautifully presented. The views into the valley were stunning. Our dog enjoyed the walled paddock as we did, its in a special spot. The valley walks were so beautiful, we hope to return again next year to enjoy staying in this very comfortable barn.
