This spacious cottage will suit families or friends looking to get together to enjoy the extraordinary beauty of the Yorkshire Dales. It is set in the sleepy village of Thornton Rust, which lies between Aysgarth and Cubeck in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. It is at the edge of an escarpment running along the lower part of Addlebrough, one of the most prominent and recognisable features in mid-Wensleydale. The views from the top of Addlebrough are breathtaking, and well worth the 4-mile walk. A couple of miles down the road, you will find Aysgarth village and Aysgarth Falls, with its three-stepped waterfalls that have been a tourist attraction for more than 200 years. For a fun day out, Bolton Castle (6.5 miles) is one of the country’s best-preserved medieval castles, and also has falconry displays, archery demonstrations, children’s trails and hands-on activities.
This traditional Dales property was originally two worker's cottages, and still retains their large fireplaces and some beautiful, exposed beams. The cosy lounge has a pair of sofas and a window seat, with its focal point the open fire, which you are sure to enjoy on a cool evening, perhaps gathered around with books or board games. As an alternative space in which to sit there is also a snug, with a sofa, chair, bookcase, TV and wood burner effect electric fire. The spacious and bright kitchen/diner features a farmhouse-style dining table and chairs by the large stone fireplace with a multi-fuel stove. A serving hatch opens into the snug. Also on this floor is a very convenient utility and shower room, which has a tiled floor and corner shower, a WC, a washer/dryer and storage for shoes and coats. On the first floor there are three bedrooms: a pretty super-king-size (with zip-and-link beds which can be made up as twins on request) with an en-suite shower room, a quaint double, and a cosy twin room with a step down into it and a low, sloping ceiling. The double and twin bedrooms share a family bathroom, which also has a low ceiling and a step down.
After a day’s walking and exploring, the back garden, with its raised lawn and flower borders, backing onto open fields, is a great place in which to sit and enjoy the peace and sunshine. To the front is a paved area with a bistro table and chairs.
