A beautiful converted barn in Swaledale, close to the northern edge of the Yorkshire Dales, this is a fabulous retreat for a couple wanting to get away from it all and explore this fabulous area. Just 2 miles away is the quaint village of Gunnerside, conveniently located on the Coast to Coast walk, and with a lovely local pub. While in the village, be sure to follow the 2.5 mile trail up Gunnerside Gill, a narrow, rocky gorge, where fascinating signs of the village's lead-mining past can be seen. The vibrant market town of Richmond is 18 miles away, and boasts an impressive castle, cobbled market place and Georgian theatre, as well as plenty of quirky shops and art galleries and a good choice of pubs, restaurants and bars. Every Saturday there is a traditional outdoor market, joined by a popular farmer’s market once a month. The town is also the gateway to wonderful and unspoilt countryside, making it an ideal base for cycling, walking and other outdoor pursuits. A popular 4-mile circular walk from Richmond takes you along the banks of the River Swale to the ruins of Easby Abbey, home of the white monks, and back via an old railway track.
This historic barn has a light, airy and modern feel inside, with an open-plan ground floor that encompasses a smart and comfortable lounge, a dining area and a high-quality kitchen (with quartz worktops), all tastefully decorated and encompassing every convenience for an enjoyable holiday. The highlight of this space is surely the huge window, with gorgeous views over the meadows, hills and fells, besides which the dining table has been placed. A timber staircase leads to the first floor, where the light and spacious bedroom, with original beams, has plenty of storage space and more of those wonderful views. Its en-suite bathroom is a luxurious, contemporary room with underfloor heating.
To one side of the barn is a lawned area/meadow with garden furniture – a fabulous place in which to relax and breathe in the fresh Yorkshire air.
