This adorable cosy fisherman’s cottage with sea views is ideal for romantic getaways, small families and don’t forget the much loved dog. With a mixture of charming period features and contemporary warmth it has everything you need for a relaxing and highly enjoyable getaway. It enjoys one of Whitby’s most coveted addresses in the heart of Whitby old town, just a stones throw from Tate Beach and bustling Church Street with its array of quaint shops, cafes, restaurants and bars , quietly tucked away at the bottom of 199 steps with sea views.

The cottage extends across three floors. Step inside the appealing open plan lounge and kitchen with its beamed ceilings, original fireplace and comfy sofas. The overall aesthetic is one of quiet refinement and coziness, nothing overdone, simply well chosen with all modern comforts including smart TV, efficient Wi Fi and well stocked kitchen with bespoke cabinetry and appliances. In cooler months there is a warming fire set in the original fireplace .
To the upper floors are two generously proportioned double bedrooms which are served by a modern bathroom finished to a high standard. The first floor contains an elegant double bedroom with feature fireplace and views up to St Mary’s Church .A twin room can be found on the top floor with a magical nautical theme with vaulted ceiling and views out to sea.
Outside the front door is a small patio area with sea views and table and chairs provided during the summer months.

It truly is one of Whitby’s best locations, quietly tucked away at the bottom of the famous 199 steps with sea views and only a stones throw from Tate Hill beach where you can enjoy a morning coffee on the sand and the iconic St Mary’s Church with its bells leading to Whitby Abbey, where you can explore the atmospheric ruins and walk along the coastal path to Robin Hoods Bay if you are feeling energetic!!
Just around the corner from Doris is the famous bustling cobbled ‘Church Street’ leading down to the harbour with a myriad of quaint shops, cafes, restaurants, galleries, and bars. You are spoilt for choice where to eat, with some outstanding restaurants only a few minutes walk away.
Yet despite being so close to Church Street the cottage’s location is wonderfully peaceful in the evenings. Whether you are sitting outside with a bottle of wine on the tables and chairs provided looking out to the sea or walking at dusk the East Pier, only a minute away, to watch the sun disappear into the sea there is a lovely, authentic calm about this vibrant and busy fishing town at night.
From harbour boat trips to the Whitby Museum, Dracula Experience and nearby Sandsend there is so much to explore and do without needing to get into a car.
For those who love the countryside and want to explore further a field the North Yorkshire Moors National Park is on your doorstep with the villages of Grosmont and Goathland where the iconic ‘Heartbeat ’ was filmed with its steam train only 20 minutes away.
The owners of Doris really have thought of everything with a rare private secure parking place that comes with the cottage. Whilst this is on the other side of the swing bridge with a 10 minute walk you can unload outside the cottage before parking.

Such a relaxed atmosphere in an ideal location for the Abbey and the older part of the town. The cottage was well provisioned in all aspects.

The cottage itself is nice but it was let down by a number of factors. It was dirty, the beds were very uncomfortable and the parking is on the other side of town. You can drive to the property to unload but I would not recommend doing it at 3 as we did. It is down the smallest busiest road in Whitby which when we arrived was hard enough to even waRead morelk down. It was horrific pushing through the crowd in a car. Hide

Just back from a week at Doris Cottage. This is a gorgeous well equipped house. The location is great, very close to both beach ( dog friendly) and shops. The master bed was very comfy.

Fantastic location for the Steps, the Abbey, the Brewery and local shops. All amenities catered for. Small beach nearby is ideal for letting your dog have a run around. Having parking included in the booking is also a great help, albeit across the bridge so you have to unpack at the cottage beforehand. For those who have not visited Whitby before, Read morethe cottage is located just off a cobbled road that in areas is only wide enough for one car therefore you may have to move your car if another comes along. I would definitely recommend this cottage for its quirkiness and location. Very cosy. Hide

Beautiful cottage, fantastic location, didn't need our car once parked up for the whole week, which was nice not to have to drive, Lots and independent shops literally round the corner, get beach and if you get chance go on a boat ride to see the seals, had an amazing time, Doris cottage is homely and the surrounding are perfect.
