We booked Oak Lodge as a last-minute getaway for the bank holiday weekend through Holiday Cottages. The price was very reasonable compared to similar options, and the booking was for two adults, one child, and a dog. Prior to arrival, I contacted the owner to advise we may arrive after 6pm. This wasnt an issue, as they live on site, which was reasRead moresuring. The lodge is situated slightly off the main roads, around 510 minutes from Pocklington and approximately 1520 minutes from York. The entrance is down a quaint track, clearly signposted as Willow Waters Fishery. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the owner, who gave clear directions to the lodge. There is parking for up to four cars nearby, allocated as two spaces per cabin, and this is well signposted. The lodge itself is beautifully presented, with a warm, open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area. It was well equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay. The living area included a two-seater sofa, two chairs, a coffee table, and a Smart TV with Freeview. The kitchen was particularly well stocked, with a large sink, oven/grill, microwave, dishwasher, and a good range of crockery and utensils. The dining space featured a large table with bench seating and chairs. There are two bedrooms, both very well laid out. One includes two single beds, a wardrobe, and a bedside table. The main bedroom features a double bed, dressing table, bedside tables, and a wardrobe behind sliding doors. Behind these doors is also a fantastic en-suite, complete with a freestanding bath, which was a real highlight. In addition, there is a second bathroom off the hallway with a spacious walk-in shower. A utility area provides extra storage, a sink, and a coat hanging space, which we found particularly useful for storing the dogs bed and bowls. Outside, the lodge is surrounded by decking with comfortable rattan seating for up to four people, making it a great space to relax. One small downside is that, unlike the neighbouring Sycamore Lodge, Oak Lodge does not have a gate on the decking. This meant we had to keep a close eye on the dog or position furniture to prevent him wandering off. Additionally, both lodges would benefit from a defined path (e.g. paving or gravel), as the ground can become quite muddy in wet conditions. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay. The surrounding area offers lovely walks and scenery, and the nearby fishery lakes are particularly picturesque. The lodge itself is modern, well maintained, and very comfortable, and the owners were friendly and welcoming throughout. There is plenty to do in the local areawe visited Allerthorpe Lakeland Park (around 10 minutes away) on a sunny day and the Yorkshire Air Museum on another, both of which were great outings. We would happily stay here again and would definitely consider rebooking if returning to the area. Hide
