Lose yourselves in the glorious views out across the Cleveland Hills when you stay at this appealing holiday home with its unique history. Once home to famous British explorer Captain James Cook, it now offers impressive accommodation and a picturesque outlook. Set in the Yorkshire village of Great Ayton, the three-bedroom cottage sleeps six guests and welcomes up to three of their four-legged friends. Located close to the fringes of the North York Moors National Park, it is in a great location for hiking, climbing and horse riding, as well as cycling.

Make the most of your historical setting by visiting the Captain Cook Schoolroom Museum in the village or embarking upon a 2.5-mile walk to the Captain Cook Monument. Undertake a 5.5-mile hike from the cottage to the Warren Moor ironstone mine, a great example of engineering ingenuity where you can see an old chimney believed to be the only Victorian ironstone mining chimney remaining in the country.

Open the front door of this period property and enter via the lobby. Find yourselves in the dining room, where you will all be able to gather for delicious holiday dinners and hearty Yorkshire breakfasts to set you up for the day. Wander on through into the lounge to bask in the streaming sunshine and perhaps fire up the wood burner on autumn and winter nights. Relax in here after your fun-filled days out, chat about your plans for the rest of your stay and choose something to watch together on the Smart TV.

Make your way into the beautiful kitchen, with its combination of exposed stonework and stylish fittings, to make everyone a cup of tea. Decide what to prepare for dinner with the fresh Yorkshire produce you have shopped for on your trips out. Pause at the table with a glass of something cold and your magazine or book while supper roasts in the oven.

End each day by heading off to either the convenient, double bedroom on the ground floor, which has an en-suite wet room and WC, or the king-size or twin room up on the first floor. The family bathroom is also up at this level.

Take breakfast out on the terrace on sunny days and watch the children and dogs play on the grass. Keep an eye on them near the pond, which is home to ducks and geese. Light the BBQ on warm evenings to have dinner out in the fresh air and take in the beautiful views. You’ll find plenty of parking at the property too.

A really lovely cottage in a wonderful location. Because of the age of one of our party we weren't able to make the most of the walks directly from the house although my wife did walk our dog to Great Ayton, which was very straightformward. The cottage is in a lovely situation with lots of great walks from the door. It was warm and very comfortable with a well equipped kitchen and comfy beds. It was great for my elderly mum as she had the downstairs bedroom and wet room - and was very happy. Unfortunately, we didnt really have the weather to be able to sit out but the two seating areaRead mores in the garden looked very inviting and the garden was enclosed and escape proof for the dog! Lots of nice eating places within close distance and only a 20 min or so drive to the coast. We would definitely go back. Hide

Lovely, clean and well equipped holiday home and very spacious. Fantastic views and lovely to wake up hearing sheep in the near by field. The owners who lived next door were very friendly and our grandson enjoyed watching the tractor go by and harvesting the field as well as the sheep and cows.
