A delightful former fisherman’s home, this comfortable cottage makes a superb base for exploring the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast. Sleeping five guests, the charming two-bedroom retreat offers accommodation across four storeys from its position near the beach at Robin Hood’s Bay. Stroll less than 100 metres to the sand, where you can paddle in the shallows, potter in rock pools and hunt for fossils. Pick up the Cleveland Way and walk 7 miles along the clifftops to Whitby, taking in the incredible seascapes. Whitby, 6 miles away by car, with its beautiful beaches, colourful shops and range of eateries, makes a great day out. While you are here, climb the 99 steps up to the dramatic ruins of the abbey. Lovers of the great outdoors will also wish to make the most of their proximity to the magnificent North York Moors National Park, with its varied landscapes.
Take two steps up to enter the stone hideaway and into the welcoming lounge. Like the rest of the intriguing bolthole, this wood-panelled room is adorned with quirky items of interest that lend warmth to the space. Light a fire in the hearth on chilly days, then toast your toes as you sink back into the plump leather sofas. Play a game on the coffee table or find a film on the Smart TV for everyone to enjoy later on. Doors from this cheerful room open into useful storage and a children’s den, brimming with games and coastal knick-knacks. One door also opens to reveal a steep staircase leading to the kitchen/diner. Head down here to discover a cosy, beamed basement that has been fitted out with everything you need to help you whip up holiday meals. There is also a large table where you can sit down to your Yorkshire feasts. Yet another door in the lounge opens up to reveal an additional set of steep, narrow, cottage-style stairs, this time leading up to the first floor of the cottage. Here you will find a colourful triple bedroom, with a set of bunks and a single bed that younger guests will adore. The family bathroom is also here. The second bedroom, a double with a vaulted ceiling, is set on the floor above, where it enjoys sea views.
While there is no dedicated outside space at this cottage, you can amble less than 100 metres down to the beach to enjoy the fresh sea air. You are welcome to pause temporarily in an unloading area while you take your luggage in and out of the cottage. A permit is provided for the Bank Top car park, 350 metres away, for the duration of your stay.
