A delightful, Georgian cottage, this unique hideaway is a great base from which to get out and about in North Yorkshire. Tucked away in the older part of town, it sleeps up to four guests and is suitable for a family break or two couples. Stroll 100 metres down to the harbour to watch the boats or book a trip out to see seals and dolphins, or walk 300 metres down to South Bay Beach, which is popular with families. Take the children to attractions such as the Sea Life aquarium and the Alpamare water park. Visit the castle, with its panoramic views along the Yorkshire coastline and undertake a 9-mile cliff-top walk from Scarborough to Ravenscar, following the Cleveland Way.

Step into the terraced cottage to find yourselves in a welcoming lounge, where you can light the wood burner on chilly evenings and settle down together in its cosy warmth to a night of viewing on the TV or via the DVD player. Take the steep, cottage-style stairs down to the lower ground floor to find the kitchen/diner, where you can whip up snacks and meals for your party then gather round the table together to enjoy them. Another flight of steep, cottage-style stairs, heading up from the lounge, leads to the first floor, where a twin bedroom and the family shower room are positioned. Venture up another level to a king-size bedroom on the second floor. This room has a TV and enjoys views towards the harbour and the sea.

French doors from the kitchen/diner open on to a courtyard garden, where you and your family or friends can bask in the sunshine and dine in the fresh air.

  • 2 bedrooms – 1 twin and 1 king-size
  • 1 family shower room, with shower cubicle and WC
  • Electric oven and grill, five-burner gas hob, microwave, large fridge/freezer and washing machine
  • Wood burner- logs are provided
  • 2 TVs (lounge and bedroom) and DVD
  • Sunny courtyard garden, with table and chairs
  • Roadside parking, subject to availability (scratch card permits provided)
  • Travel cot

I'm not a complainer I give everything a fair view but the obsession with fire is over the top. There are heavy fire doors to both bedrooms that hardly open to get through. The one to the top bedroom is difficult because the stairs are so narrow and there's no light. The stairs are precarious because there are no handrails apart from a very shorRead moret one down to the kitchen. All stairs are narrow, steep and twisted. There's not enough room to move around in the living room because of the very large coffee table and both small chairs are hard and offer little support and comfort. There is almost no storage space for your dry food in the kitchen. And only a tiny surface to prepare meals about the size of a chopping board. No thought has gone into the "courtyard" which is full of weeds. And parking is a lottery. Sometimes we were parked 5 streets away and as bird watchers we had a lot of gear to carry. We didn't get enough parking permits which were supposed to be provided and on contacting the owners several times we had no response. Only the cleaner helped us out. The views of the harbour, lighthouse and cliffs was lovely. The actual cottage is interesting to stay in. Parking a car outside properly to unload and load your luggage is tricky because it's a narrow dead end. So if you fancy never knowing where you are going to leave your car, you eat out everyday and are prepared for 36 tiny challenging stairs it's the place for you. Apart from that it was really nice. Lovely little cottage, super location. Cool in a heatwave! Highly recommend. Those with even minor mobility issues would struggle in this property. Parking permits gratefully received!

The cottage was lovely and the location was perfect. We would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone apart from people who have issues with their mobility. The stairs are steep and narrow and lack handrails to the upper floors, and the firedoors are stiff. Apart from that, if you're young and fit and like high tech gadgets, you'll love it.

We have just spent our third, extremely enjoyable, annual holiday at Lighthouse cottage. It has been ideal for us coming to Scarborough to see the year's Ayckbourn play and explore Scarborough and nearby walks. Parking is a bit stressful and the approach to the cottage and, indeed, its own staircases, have become a bit of a struggle but those with Read moreknees younger than mine should have a wonderful time.
