  • Ideal for long walks, cycle rides and enjoying the shops and eateries of Hawes

Property code: OC-DS052

A handsome, traditional, stone retreat, situated at the heart of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this appealing property is just 0.5 miles from the market town of Hawes. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom cottage makes great base for a family or a pair of couples on holiday together. From here, head out into the magnificent dales on foot or by bicycle. Visit beauty spots, such as Aysgarth Falls, 10 miles away, or Cotter Force, a smaller waterfall, 3 miles from the property. Venture into picture-postcard Hawes to buy some of its famous Wensleydale cheese, browse in the market and dine out. Plan a day out to famous Richmond, 23 miles away, within its impressive castle, while you are here too.

Step into the cottage to find yourselves in the generous kitchen/diner. Tear yourselves away from the views in here long enough to put the kettle on or make a meal to sit down to at the table. Take one step into the lounge, where you can stoke up the wood burner on chilly days and bask in its heat as you chat together, watch TV or gaze out through the picture windows. Follow the steep, cottage-style stairs up to the first floor, where a double bedroom, with TV, is one step up from the landing, and a twin room is one step down. The family bathroom, also one step up, is at this level too.

Have a glass of wine out in the seating area to the front of the cottage or the small, walled courtyard space to the rear. Take in the views and enjoy the fresh, country air.

The cottage is in a wonderful location with amazing views from every window. It is an easy 10 minute walk to local shops and pubs etc in Hawes. Inside the rooms are cosy and comfortably equipped. Not exactly a negative but because the cottage is old, the ground floor is not on one level and the stairs while quite short are nevertheless also quitRead moree steep. Possibly a factor for someone with mobility issues. The steps/stairs are helpfully mentioned in the cottage information on the website. All in all a wonderful cottage break in a beautiful location. Great cottage with everything we needed. Extremely comfortable, loved the bedding and home comforts. Lots of walks right from the door as well as nearby. We went to sheepdog demo organised from the Green Dragon Inn, which we really enjoyed.

Very well equipped including decent knives. Good quality towels and linen. Easy parking right outside. Incredible views from the cottage especially from bedroom window. Nicely located just outside Hawes which itself is delightful. Only criticism - steep staircase possibly not great for anyone with mobility issues.
