This split-level cottage takes its name from the woodpecker who visits almost daily. It retains much of its old character and charm, with exposed beams and feature stonework, and a very peaceful garden. Originally a barn, the property lies on the edge of a village within the North York Moors National Park, and footpaths and bridleways link to nearby villages and the market town of Kirkbymoorside. The owners, who live next door, provide maps and are happy to advise on the best routes and places to visit. Cyclists will be happy to know there’s a secure storage barn with racks.
Climb six steps up from the kitchen to the lounge area, which has a squishy sofa perfect for relaxing after a day out exploring. From here, another six steps lead to the mezzanine bedroom with a super-king-size bed and a shower room.
Sit out on the decked area outside the kitchen or on the bench down some steps in your private section of the garden – both make for a great spot to observe the many birds who live here and in the surrounding woodland.
