If you love nature and the great outdoors, you’re in the right place, as this property is set between two magnificent national parks: the North York Moors to the east and the Yorkshire Dales to the west. One of the most popular dales, Nidderdale, is also a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Don your hiking boots and explore this walkers’ paradise. Or hop on two wheels and follow champion trails that inspired the Tour de France and Tour de Yorkshire cycle races in this region; you’ll see the prettiest of villages and experience fun challenges along the way. For an easier pace, though still a hike, head to Brimham Rocks (23 miles) where children will delight in seeing the curious rock formations - dare to balance on the Rocking Stones, or see if you can find The Gorilla and the Dancing Bear. Or enjoy family fun at Thorp Perrow Arboretum and Wildlife Park (11 miles) where you can wander nature trails and lakeside picnics, or meet owls, falcons, and inquisitive meerkats.

Potter around the pretty town of Bedale (10 miles) where you’ll find interesting antique shops laden with treasures, and independent clothes boutiques. The town also attracts foodies for its great range of fresh local produce, including the famous Wensleydale cheese, Yorkshire dairy ice-cream, meats, and fish. Don’t miss the cathedral city of Ripon (13 miles) which boasts a weekly market, independent shops, friendly pubs, and restaurants to satisfy the most discerning of palates. Discover the cathedral’s connections to Alice in Wonderland author, Lewis Carroll, and browse artisan goods in the marketplace. Hedge your bets with a family-friendly day out at Ripon Racecourse, known as Yorkshire’s Garden Racecourse.

This area of Yorkshire is steeped in history with numerous heritage attractions to keep your family entertained. Visit Norton Conyers (12 miles), Newby Hall (17 miles) and Richmond Castle (19 miles) all made for a day of exploration and fun. Don’t miss Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden (18 miles), a World Heritage Site where you can see the ruins of a 12th-century Cistercian abbey, an Elizabethan mansion, and a medieval deer park. Or find the essence of the Yorkshire Dales in the pretty market town of Leyburn (20 miles), with its traditional shops, pubs, and cafes, a bustling Friday market, and an auction house where you can snap up a slice of history.
