A gorgeous, bijou bolthole, perfect for a romantic retreat. Set on private North Yorkshire grounds, you'll have access to long walks in any direction.

Perched overlooking green pastures with the distant hills of the North York Moors on the horizon, this former barn is an idyllic haven for couples. Reconnect with nature and embrace scenic walks across the countryside with a hipflask in your pocket. When it comes to thoughtful extra touches, the friendly owners have gone the extra mile with the welcome pack provided, and breakfast and dinner service can be arranged direct. Waggy-tailed visitors will also receive a warm greeting with their own dog pack brimming with treats and essentials.

Inside, the delightful space is decidedly English country cottage with a high vaulted ceiling, a feature timber beam and wooden flooring, yet the furniture is chic and contemporary. Functional style is the key when it comes to the kitchenette, which is cleverly incorporated into the overarching decor with painted cabinetry, marble work surfaces and integrated units that include two microwaves and a fridge. There is a plug-in induction unit for preparing light lunches and simple suppers, and ample storage for crockery and cutlery.

There’s a glass table for lazy late mornings sharing tea and cake whilst you read through your favourite magazines, and the deep sofas are inviting after a long day of exploration. Settle down together, switching on the TV for some casual viewing of your favourite shows, or connect to the Bluetooth speaker and relax to the tones of your favourite music.

Soothe aching limbs in your en-suite shower room before retiring to bed, curling up in the sumptuously soft king-size bed that’s dressed in crisp linen. Fresh and uncluttered yet packed with personality, this sweet room offers a restful night’s sleep.

Step through the rear door and locate your tranquil seating area, a stunning viewpoint for gazing up at the night sky. The North York Moors are a designated Dark Sky Reserve, so you’ll be in for a treat after dusk with the array of stars and colourful hues to see whilst snuggled under a blanket. In the daylight, it is a peaceful nook next to the farmhouse vegetable garden for wildlife spotting in the fields beyond. By prior arrangement, the shared billiards room and tennis court beckon for some afternoon entertainment.

On the edge of the North York Moors, the pretty town of Kirkbymoorside has much to offer including a gallery, antique shops, tea rooms, deli, wine shop and butchers. From here you can move on to the vibrant and attractive Yorkshire market towns such as Helmsley (7.5 miles), which has an abundance of good restaurants, tea rooms and independent shops.

The vibrant and attractive market town of Pickering (9 miles) is perfect for a relaxing wander around its pretty houses, shops and tearooms. Grand Georgian architecture stands alongside cosy traditional cottages to create a picture-postcard location with several excellent restaurants, pubs and cafes in the town. The wonderful North York Moors Railway starts in Pickering where you can catch a steam train to Whitby and back again through some of the most picturesque countryside in Yorkshire.

Beyond the town lies the North York Moors. A landscape like no other, its a place of gently rolling hills of heather, ancient woodlands and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. If you want to get away from it all take a trip to the top of the high central moorlands. The famous Blakey Ridge affords some of the best views in the country and, if walking is your thing, you are surrounded on all sides by some truly stunning routes. Take a tour of the pretty towns and villages in the area, Egton, Danby, Castleton, Rosedale. Or head up on the high moorland of Castleton Rigg, we guarantee on a clear day it will take your breath away.

Kirkbymoorside is also close to the North Yorkshire coast, with the picture-postcard fishing village of Robin Hoods Bay 33 miles away. Take a day trip here and experiences the sights, sounds and tastes of Yorkshires coastline. Alternatively, you can board a steam train and travel across the North York Moors all the way to the gothic town of Whitby (29.5 miles), taking in the spectacular countryside en route. Probably the most visited and much-loved of Yorkshires seaside resorts, Whitby is an idyllic location for a holiday. With its seaside heritage, excellent restaurants, independent shops and host of bars and cafes along its medieval streets, it has so much to offer the discerning holidaymaker.

Cottage was a bit on the small side but equipped with everything you need for your stay. The bed was really comfortable albeit space around was a bit limited. Had problems with the TV reception don't know if it was the TV itself or the Freeview service. Great shower.
