Enjoying a lovely village location, this lovely holiday property is found just a few miles from the vibrant cathedral city of Ripon (4.5 miles) and less than half an hour’s drive to Harrogate (14 miles). It offers the peace and tranquillity of the Yorkshire Dales countryside with the delights of cosmopolitan towns within easy reach.

Close by there's the charming little town of Boroughbridge. Set on the banks of the River Ure, this handsome town was first settled in Roman times, and today offers some good options for eats as well as some lovely walks along the river. And if you're a bit of a foodie, there are several good restaurants in the wider area. Nearby Aldborough runs a fantastic festival every June/July with opera, piano and string quartets, a true delight if you enjoy classical music. This village is also home to two spectacularly well-preserved Roman footpaths.

This area of Yorkshire has enough historical sites to keep you busy weeks with Ripley Castle, Newby Hall and Norton Conyers all within a small radius. And of course, the world-famous Fountains Abbey and the adjoining Studley Royal Water Garden (3 miles) are both within easy striking distance. West of Ripon, this World Heritage Site is deservedly one of the National Trust's most visited locations. As well as the spectacular ruins of a 12th century Cistercian abbey, the grounds are home to an Elizabethan Mansion, a medieval deer park and some of the most romantic vistas in the country.

There's also Ripon Cathedral. Smaller than its close neighbour, York Minster, it is still an awe-inspiring sight. In addition, every night for at least 450 years, the Ripon Hornblower has sounded the curfew at 9.00pm from all four sides of the obelisk in the market place, come rain or shine, followed by a 15-minute history lesson about the ceremony and the city itself – it’s an unmissable experience. If you are partial to a flutter, Ripon Race Ground has around 15 meetings from April to early September. Known as 'Yorkshire's Garden Racecourse', it has a distinct atmosphere harking back to a bygone era where traditional tea-rooms and bandstands sit alongside the champagne bar.

Harrogate is an absolute must if you're staying here. Encircled by its famous 'Stray' or '1,000 acres' of horseshoe shaped grassland, the Victorian Spa town of Harrogate has a bright and breezy open-air feel and is characterised by its impressive floral displays. And as you would expect of such a bustling upbeat town, Harrogate boasts over 300 bars and restaurants together with all the shops, swimming pools, cinemas, parks and gardens you could ever wish for. And with York (22 miles) and the Yorkshire Dales close by, there are lots of options for day trips!

This property is personally managed by Phil.

Had a very relaxing break, the cottages amenities were top grade and the owners very friendly which only added to the whole experience. The cottage was situated in a very quiet village which catered for great dog walking locations, but it was still situated with easy access to locations such as Rippon, Harrogate and York.

Lovely cottage. Very comfortable. Location was good and although it was a few miles from nearest shop/pub this wasnt an issue as we were aware of that when we booked it. Would have no hesitation in recommending it.

Beautiful spacious cottage with quality fixtures and fittings. We had a wonderful Christmas at the cottage, it was lovely and warm and very homely, well equipped, we cooked Christmas dinner for 4, would have been handy to have a few more plates, bowls and mugs as there is only 6 of each so we had to use the dishwasher after every meal. Beds were vRead moreery comfortable and lots of places to hang clothing. Location great for access to Ripon, Boroughbridge, Knaresborough etc. Great walks from the cottage, with plenty of fields to let the dog off his lead. The only thing negative comment on is the cleanliness of the cottage could have been a little better, I had to clean the oven and microwave and the downstairs toilet and shower could have been cleaner. I did mention the oven to the owner and she did say she would have come and cleaned if I had asked but I had already cleaned it. Also a better brush or a small hoover would have been useful to keep the cottage clean while we were there. This would not deter us from staying again as it was perfect location and cottage for us. Lovely stay in April cottage, only marked down local amenities as there were none in the village but we already new this, and this didn't detract from our stay. The cottage has a lovely wood burner but could do with some hearth tools.
