This accommodation has an idyllic location with an abundance of wildlife on its doorstep including deer, birds of prey, owls and highland cattle. Set in the unspoilt and very pretty North York Moors village of Ruston just 50 yards from the boundary of the North York Moors National Park with stunning views of the Vale of Pickering, you can strike out for a walk right from the doorstep. Strolling down to the local tea-rooms for a slice of cake is a pleasure and there's a pub which serves food within a mile of the property. Its position means you are perfectly placed to take in the best of the North York Moors, Yorkshire Coast and York.

Sitting at the eastern foot of the North York Moors the region's dramatic landscape of heather and open moorland is just a short drive away. Somewhat smaller than the Yorkshire Dales, the North Yorkshire Moors still cover an area of almost 600 square miles and like the Dales you can easily find yourself miles from anywhere relatively quickly. But there is something distinctly more civilised and less remote about the Moors. In place of harsh limestone and dramatic peaks you'll find gentle rolling hills of heather, ancient woodland and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. There is a sense of wilderness, particularly on top of the high central moorlands, but its cast in comforting soft focus. We recommend taking the road from Thornton-Le-Dale or Pickering north towards Whitby to experience it in all its grandeur. There are countless pretty villages and towns to explore in the area. The handsome market towns of Pickering and Helmsley are a must, as is the archetypical Moors village of Hutton-le-Hole.

Although you could happily spend the weekend mooching about the independent shops, bars and cafes along Whitby's bustling medieval streets, it's well worth striking out to sample some of the other less known coastal villages nearby. Staithes and Runswick Bay are all within 5 miles of the town, and each have their own unique charm.

A very comfortable and cosy barn conversion cottage set up with all you need for a break away from it all. While Ruston is a lovely, peaceful village providing an ideal setting for a relaxing stay, it is close enough to Malton for food and shopping and also to Scarborough for walks and the beach.

Very comfortable cottage in a great location to explore the area. Nicely styled rooms with a comfy bed, good shower and log burner for the colder evenings! What more do you need!

Comfortable, welcoming cottage. Martin and Lisa, were on hand if needed but in no way intrusive. Blacksmiths Barn offers an excellent base for exploring the moors, the local pub is good value and there are several easy walks from the front door.

Great location, 6 miles from Scarborough and right on the edge of the North Yorks Moors. Clean and well equipped. Everything you could need for a break. My only small niggle was that the bed was a bit on the small side. I'm used to more space and I found it uncomfortably cramped.

Stunning in every way.... location, interior, exterior. All to a high specification.

A very comfortable, characterful cottage in a beautiful location. Perfect for exploring the North York Moors, Dalby Forest, surrounding villages and seaside towns. Wonderful dog walks both around the village and further afield. Martin and Lisa were perfect hosts. Thank you, for a really lovely stay.

Lovely little barn, located in a very small villlage. Barn was as shown in photos, well equipped, best ever instructions for hot to use log burner. One pub easy to walkable to but need a car to get most local villages. Would recommend if you want to be away from it all.
