With an understated elegance this is the perfect Yorkshire idyll for couples and young families alike. There is a vibe of peace and calm throughout this single-level property, with flagstone flooring and wide oak doors giving the rooms a luxuriously spacious feel. This is further enhanced by the bright open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting room: a great space to cook and dine together. There is a cosy wood burner for you to curl up in front of and plenty of warm throws to snuggle up under.

The living room also features a TV/DVD and Wi-Fi throughout is provided too. If you fancy some good old fashioned off-line entertainment you'll find plenty of books and magazines to delve into too. The kitchen area sits beside the lounge and comes equipped with everything you'll need during your stay including a dishwasher, fridge/freezer and microwave. Shared laundry facilities are available on-site. A large bedroom features a super king-size bed and stylish shutters across the windows; this is a lovely room to indulge yourself with breakfast in bed and the morning papers. The bathroom is also a generous size. In here you'll find under floor heating, a free-standing bath and a walk-in shower. Enjoying an enviable situation sat comfortably at the edge of Gillamoor, an attractive North York Moors village, this is a superb choice for a cosy break away from it all. Close to the pretty town of Kirkbymoorside (2.5 miles) and then on to vibrant and attractive Yorkshire market towns like Pickering (10 miles) and Helmsley (8 miles); both of which have an abundance of good restaurants, tea-rooms and independent shops.

Beyond the village lies the North York Moors. A landscape like no other, it's a place of gentle rolling hills of heather, ancient woodlands and lazy rivers winding through lush green valleys. If you want to get away from it all take a trip to the top of the high central moorlands. The famous Blakey Ridge affords some of the best views in the country in our opinion, and is just a few minutes' drive from the cottage. And if walking is your thing, you are surrounded on all sides by some truly stunning routes.

Great location, yet apart from a great pub Gillamore is very quiet. The walk to Hutton-le-Hole was mainly by road as the footpaths are very boggy and the town was closed apart from the pub. Beautiful little village though and it was early January.

Cedar Cottage (Gales House Farm) was ideal for what we needed, peace, comfort, relaxation and dog friendly. The location was fantastic, no busy roads, very few tourists, small friendly village with a pub (The Royal Oak) that sold excellent food. The owners of the cottage, Georgina and Steve, have worked very hard to design the cottage for comfort, Read morecleanliness and they were on hand every day should they be needed for anything. We couldn't have asked for anything better. Thank you. Hide

Offering infinite opportunities for lovers of the great outdoors, the wild expanse of the Yorkshire Dales National Park in North and West Yorkshire is a glorious mix of awe-inspiring scenery, imposing castles, characterful Dales' villages and drystone walls. While to the east, the North York Moors National Park offers atmospheric moorland, fragrant pine forests and charming towns tucked away within steep-sloped valleys. Extending all the way to the Yorkshire Coast, you can even experience a traditional day at the seaside at popular resorts including Whitby, Flamborough and Scarborough. It's a beautiful terrain to explore.

A visit to the historical city of York is a must. Renowned for its medieval architecture, the magnificent York Minster and a myriad of museums, independent shops and exceptional eateries, you will not be disappointed. Then there's the chalk landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds, known to have inspired David Hockney.
